Is it safe to use a detachable showerhead for clitoral masturbation? I have been doing this for many years and seem to get bacterial vaginosis a lot. I was wondering if there is a correlation.

It's possible there's something in the water, or maybe in the showerhead. It could need a good cleaning to get residual gunk out. Just a thought.

It's one of those things that depends on circumstances and individual biochemistry, I bet. I "commune" with my hand-held showerhead frequently, and don't get BV. You might want to give yourself a rest there, if you're concerned that the showerhead is gunky or the water isn't good, and I'd suggest taking probiotics. Lactobacilli of most sorts are useful, and can hopefully crowd out the bad bacteria that are giving you BV.

Good luck!

I would either switch out or clean the showerhead.

I've never used a showerhead, i keep hearing amazing things about doing that though. =X
I think I agree with the first poster-it might be something on the head itself or in the water.

A healthy vagina has a PH level of around 4.5 and pure water's PH is around 7, so it makes sense that it could throw things off

It could also be that, if you didn't clean your vulvar area before beginning, any bacteria that had built up over the course of the day could have been forced deeper from the water pressure. That's the only thing that makes any sense to me (though the dirty showerhead is also logical).

I love my showerhead ;)

I clean it regularly and give it a really good squirt before I use it on myself after cleaning products, too.
