Hi everyone,

My partner and I have never used lubricants before, but we think it's about time to give it a shot. Does anyone know any good ones that warms, tastes good (or at least is tasteless), lasts a long time, and isn't sticky or requires clean-up?

I've used a lubricant one other time before, and I can't remember what it is, but during my after-sex-shower, I would manage to scoop out these really weird, like, leftovers from the lube. I want to avoid that, too...any idea what causes that?

I've looked at KY intense, but I read a lot of bad reviews about it. Any suggestions would be awesome, and I'll immediately get some/try it out because I think it really is worth another shot!

My ex-boyfriend always used Liquid Silk. It's water-based, and it didn't seem to be very messy or sticky at all. I can't really say anything about post-sex clean-up since it was only ever used when he was masturbating, but it certainly didn't look like there would be any problem.

I'd be careful of the 'warming' effect lubes, i've heard a lot of people saying that it's not so much a 'Oooh, that's nice & warm..' but more of a 'OMG parts are burning!1!!!' kind of sensation. :)

I second that - I tried a warming one once, it was nice for about 5 seconds, and then the burning became AWFUL, so I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone. :) Plain lube works perfectly fine, no need for extra effects. ;)

Yeahhhh. This. From my experience the warming lubes are best to be used ONLY on the clit. I have used them before for PIV sex in a pinch and it was really really ouchie. But then, most commercial lubes make my vag feel burny afterward...

If you don't use condoms, then coconut oil is absolutely the way to go. Stays silky smooth, a little goes a long way, lasts a long time. I've never had any weird residue from it. It's mildly anti-fungal, too, so it can help fight against yeast infections. As for taste, as far as I can tell the kind I'm using has little to no flavor, and no real scent. (Some people have commented before that they love the smell of their coconut oil, but I'm guessing it depends on the brand you get or something.)

If you try this, make sure you're getting straight coconut oil (there are some that are bleached or enriched - you want your ingredient label to say "coconut oil" and nothin' else really). You can get it in your grocery store. It comes as a solid in a jar (it's solid at room temp), but it melts on contact with your skin. I loooove this stuff. Well worth trying.

HOWEVER: if you and your partner are using condoms, then coconut oil is a no-go, as it breaks down latex.

Good luck!

We're just using the store brand stuff, and have loved it. Good luck with this!

Incidentally, coconut oil can be used for a bunch of different things, from skin moisturizer to cooking to hair conditioner and other stuff. I googled "coconut oil uses" and found a bunch of interesting things. :)

Coconut oil sounds like a great alternative to what my husband and I have been using. I'm going to see if I can find this locally. Is it often sold in grocery stores or porn shops?

It's sold in grocery stores and "natural" or "whole foods" stores (not sure what you might have locally). The person below me has detailed what you're looking for (though, on looking at what I have, mine's not extra-virgin....but the purer you can get, the better I'm guessing.) If you look at your local regular grocery store, just make sure you get regular coconot oil with no additives or anything extra. It should be pretty easy to find even in your normal grocery store.

Edited for typos.

this is the kind I bought and I got it at my natural grocery store (similar to Whole Foods.) I think you want pure, cold pressed, extra virgin coconut oil. I LOVE the coconutty smell.

The Durex Tingle one is good.. not the heat though.

And to be honest, even the tingle tends to get a bit stingy if you stop touching for any length of time.

My husband and I have used a variety of lubricants, and we always come back to using the same one every time: Astroglide. All the others I've used are way too sticky and don't last very long (i.e. I have to keep applying them throughout intercourse). Astroglide isn't as sticky and lasts longer. I can't tell you anything about its taste, though.

Also, after we're done, I always wash up with soap and water to get rid of any excess lubricant. Mostly that's because I get vaginal acne if I leave it on me too long, but it's also because I hate having lubricant on my body when I'm not putting it to good use.

Give coconut oil a try! No sticky, and really, no clean-up necessary - it kinda just absorbs into your skin. (makes a greeeeaAAAt moisturizer, especially for dry feet!) Not knockin' your lube choice, just throwin' it out there beceause I swear by the stuff! (It's amazing, and I know about the sticky - this doesn't have that issue!)

I'm prone to acne in my pubic area. Is coconut oil something that might cause that? I know our usual lubricant does. :(
