Hi everyone,

I was hoping to get some feedback on taking birth control non-cyclic (not getting periods).

I've suffered with pelvic pain (specifically during intercourse) since I was 18 and I'm 25 now. I've done multiple things to help it but had minimal success.

One thing I've thought though is that it seemed like it wasn't as bad the short time I used the NuvaRing in 2007.

My doctor said I could indeed try taking BC again but taking it non-cyclic because keeping the hormones level at all times would possibly help.

He prescribed me Portia (a pill) to try.

It seems weird to not get a period. He told me it's safe and nothing to worry about but it just seems odd.

Please share your experience with taking BC this way and any suggestions on painful intercourse as it relates to pelvic pain.

I don't want to have a period. I haven't had them very often when I'm on BC, because I refuse. I had a great nurse practitioner for my GYN in college, and we were very open with each other, and decided it was a good option for me.

I go to the county health department now. I had to seriously fight them to let me non-cycle, but that's mostly because they have to keep really close watch on what goes out. But they acted like it was the weirdest thing ever.

It's never been detrimental to me.

I've skipped my period many times with BC and I've never had any problems or troublesome side-effects with it. It's totally safe to do this and as far as I know the most detrimental thing that could happen is breakthrough bleeding; which I have never experienced.

Try anal then the rest really dosent matter. After a good month break in period it won't hurt anymore and you'll be done with BC. caligogreywings get a job w/ health insurence and quit abusing the system, I'm sick of paying for your broke dirty vagina. thanks yall!

I've been taking my HBC that way for the last 3 or 4 years - for me it took a couple of months for my body to get into the swing of things but now it's great. I've had no huge issues (a bit of spotting here and there and a little bit of weight gain), the only thing that is a bit of a pain is not getting a period so I know I'm not pregnant (of which the chances are slim to very slim anyway). For me the pros far outweigh the cons however because I dislike periods immensely and it's great to not have to worry about them turning up at inopportune times.

You can always give it a try if you like and if you're not feeling it, it's super easy to stop! :)

I am on NuvaRing and have been skipping my bleed for 9 weeks at a time for about a year now. It works so well for me. I never had any issues with spotting or breakthrough bleeding. The main reason I do it is because I have hella crazy mood swings the week before/during my withdrawal bleed due to the drop in hormones... now that I stack BC, my bleeds seem to be lighter and they aren't as painful. I do take pregnancy tests pretty regularly, though, because I have anxiety about getting pregnant and I never know without having a bleed.
