Anyone experience insomnia before/during their period?
Any solutions??

-A very tired girl :(

(Note: I've also been having bad mood swings before/during period as well... Any tips or solutions e.g. supplements (???) would be appreciated!)

Every single cycle! I have a night of really poor sleep the day before my period starts. No solutions, sorry. I just try to time things so I don't have much to do on day 1. I dislike sleeping meds personally, but I hear that lots of other people have relief with them.

Vitamin B has helped me a lot with PMS (though it is a gradual process -- took about 2 months, taking a B-complex and my multivitamin 4-5 days out of every week, before I noticed a distinct difference)... If it makes you crabby the rest of the time, though, extra B is not for you.

I don't know if it will help the sleeping or not. O:( About all I can suggest there is hormone testing to see if the PMS state is exacerbating any underlying conditions. (E.g., my own hobby-horse of thyroid issues... Sleep apnea, adrenal function, etc.)

Good luck!

The only time I get insomnia is when I have my period. I'm the kind of girl that can sleep pretty much anytime, anywhere. It wasn't as bad when I was on the Pill, but in the few months I've been off it has been worse. I take 2 Motrin PMs and settle in with a good book. If I *try* to sleep I get stressed out and then still don't sleep. So, I guess I don't really plan to sleep but do plan to have very quiet time.

the birth control pill helps- hormones.

I was told by my doctor vitamin E.

I have found lots of exercise all month helps regulate your hormones as well.

You might also go in to a health food store and ask- I am sure they have something. Best of luck

I've suffered through insomnia at several intervals in my life, not necessarily period related. Some of the things i found helpful: being properly hydrated, doing things that are physically tiring (especially in the sun for a little while if possible) during my normal awake hours, and not stressing out about how i'm not going to sleep. That inevitably makes it so much worse. Reading or doing something else relaxing usually helps. Though, i have been known to just read the whole night away instead of sleep...so sometimes that doesn't work. I actually had to make a habit of Not reading in bed, because it was making it harder for me to sleep in bed.

There are quite a few supplements out there that help with sleep, but the two that i've found to be the most helpful/beneficial are Melatonin (which is naturally released in your brain when you spend time in the sun) and 5HTP. Both of these are pretty easily found at most "natural health food stores." I've definitely seen Melatonin at more mainstream stores liek Rite Aid/Target too.

I'm currently suffering some sleep problems as we speak.. :/ I think it's a side affect of my hbc. For a while though, I would drink a glass of chocolate milk and it made me sleepy :) I'm sure normal milk works too.

As for mood swings, I know last month I felt particularly GRRR. I had some chocolate and that seemed to mellow me out. Hope it helps!

I get horrendous insomnia the week before my period, sometimes continuing into the period itself. Hate hate hate.
