I hope someone can help me out or calm me down because I'm really worried about this after Googling "very light periods"...oops :(

I have lots of cysts on my ovaries but have not been diagnosed with PCOS as I do not have any of the other symptoms (acne, weight gain, facial hair, etc). My period "cycle" varies from 6 months apart to 28 days apart. I just finished a period last week but it was very, very light...so light that I could have easily worn a pantyliner and would have only needed to change it once a day, if that. This "bleeding" lasted for 5 days.

Before finding out I had cysts on my ovaries, my periods were always irregular, but would be light for the first day, two heavy days, then two light days. But there was nothing to this period, not even the womb lining chunks that I'd expect to see.

So, googling "very light period" came up with results indicating pregnancy? I am sexually active and not on the pill (use condoms instead) but there haven't been any "accidents"...can anyone offer advice? I don't really know much about PCO as it is, my doctor was quite unhelpful...maybe this is to be expected??

PCOS does Weird Stuff. Thyroid does Weird Stuff (and since PCOS and thyroid can hang out together, I always suggest getting thyroid tested as well as being tested for insulin resistance, which can be caused by PCOS). And sometimes... bodies do Weird Stuff.

It's probably worth taking a pregnancy test, because it's a weird period (if you're in the US, Dollar Tree stores have good, inexpensive ones, according to peeonastick.com), but I wouldn't panic immediately.

I'd look for a better doctor, too, if the current one is unhelpful in explaining what's up.

Luck!

PCOS and thyroid issues have a connection? I didn't know that! I have hypothyroidism, would that put me a higher risk for PCOS?

I haven't looked into it very hard (yet; we're explaining theocracy to the kid in the background and it's very distracting), but I've basically heard that they can hang out together. Perhaps more importantly, they mimic many of each other's symptoms in certain areas, so trying to treat just one... not so useful for fixing the symptoms! So even if it's just plain coincidence that they're in the same person, it's often worth double-checking.

But, well, it is my pet hobby horse. *wry grin*

I have a friend who has PCOS bit none of the more obvious symptoms (facial hair, acne, weight gain). So, you may still have it,especially with how wonky your cycles are. It could jut be your cycle being weird.

Also, I agree with archangelbeth.
