Random color changing vagina?

Soooo! I decided to have another looksy down at my vulva with a mirror because I had just shaved down there and I was wondering what was bothering me so much ( I must have nicked myself on my labia majora, didn't see a mark just redness)
Anyway while I was looking at that my attention was averted to my labia with has seemed to have gotten darker. Normally it was always pink, maybe a little redish but nothing this dark. Now it has all these brownish and purplelish undertones and I'm wondering, where the heck did that come from? What could cause the color to change like that? Could it be because it was already a little irritated because of shaving or what?
Has this ever happened to any of you? What were your experiences?

Backround info: Sexual active for over a year, about to come upon my period in a week or so, kinda PMSing right now, STD/STI free.

My inner labia have gone from a light pink to a dark purple. I think it's because of age and hormones and overall blood flow to the area. So basically: nothing that I've done personally to do it. I also have noticed that one side is a bit longer than the other. But I've been going to the same doctor for my annual exam and they haven't said "Oh crap, we need to do something about this."

So yeah, in short, I would bet that you're alright.

yeah, lol actually that sounds similar to me, one sides always been longer. but thanks, =) I was never really worried, I was just curious why it would be happening now.

Mine actually range from a light pink and dark pink to a bright pink and can at times have purple-brownish tones. Sometimes I think blood flow has a lot to do with it. The same with my nipples! Bodies are interesting things, aren't they?

Just my guess here: if your period is coming soon it would seen logical that the blood build up might cause a darkening of the skin just on the outside. Also I agree with the first comment that hormones would effect that color change too.
