Lately I've been having pain during sex (the rare times me and my boyfriend do have it) even when I'm pretty sure I've been really aroused and ready for it.
I brought this up to my doctor when I had an appointment yesterday, but she said that she thinks I'm probably just not aroused enough (I've had issues with it before) and didn't want to give me a swab. I was worried it was an infection but she said if it was I'd most likely have pain at other times.
Now, today, I'm getting pain. It just started maybe 15 minutes ago, a burning sensation around the entrance to my vagina? I've had it burn like this before just randomly but now of course I'm paranoid I have an infection. My discharge seems normal, it's coming out white and gooey and not clumpy or dry. I've always had alternations between my discharge drying to a white colour or a crusty yellow (sometimes dark) colour though.
I really want to get tested so I can stop stressing but it seems stupid when I saw my doctor just before and she said she doubted it was an infection. It'll be kind of embarrassing going back this soon :(

So, in your opinions- could I have an infection? Or am I overthinking things?

It could be a yeast infection. Infection isn't really a good word because it's really an overgrowth of the natural fungi that lives in your vagina. A yeastie can cause itching and white, clumpy, 'cottage cheese' discharge, but it can also cause painful sex, small tears of the vagina/vulva, and more copious but otherwise normal discharge. Sometimes the itching, at least for me, gets to be so intense that it feels like a burning instead - and sometimes it causes my labia to be swollen, red, and generally angry. But someone can also have a yeast infection with only some of these symptoms, or one or two so mild that they don't even know.

I don't really agree with your doctor just brushing it off as 'Not being aroused enough'. It's something that probably should be investigated. I'd go back and specifically ask to be swabbed for a yeast infection or BV, but if she doesn't listen you might need to find a doctor who will. In the meantime, you could try some natural treatments to see if they help. The best would probably be unsweetened yogurt with live cultures, inserted into the vagina/scooped onto the vulva. It might be best to do this just before bed. As long as there's no added sugar in the yogurt it can't cause you any harm, but it can do a great deal of good.

There are other yeast infection treatments you can find here on Vagpag, but until you know what it is I'd suggest sticking with the yogurt, as it's probably the safest right now. Good luck!

No worries! It's good that you've decided on a treatment. :3

I suffer from recurring yeast infections and my first just... it kind of appeared out of nowhere, on my tailbone of all places. And it was a really horrible stinging pain whenever there was the slighest amount of friction. It's scary stuff when it happens out of the blue! But after you get it treated you realise that it's all okay and it's just one of those -wonderful- things about having a vagina.

Just agreeing hugely with this, and being irritated that she didn't originate "well, let's swab for yeast and BV" herself. Yes, the list to troubleshoot painful sex goes "try lube" as one of the first things, but the other first thing is to swab for YI/BV!

No, no, it's okay! I'm glad to hear that she didn't brush you off when you called her later. O:>

I'd switch doctor's. How dare he/she just brush off your concerns like that? I hate doctors that don't take their patients seriously, especially women's doctors. Would it have killed her to just take a swab?

Did she use lube vaginally on you yesterday? Those lubes usually contain glycerin which yeast adore...
