Does anybody else get bladder/rectum cramps along with their period cramps? I have always had rectal cramps ever since I started my periods & in the past 6 months or so I've started getting bladder cramps with the feeling of needing to urinate more often with the cramps. Is this normal?

EDIT: Could it be signs of endemetriosis? I really hope not!! But when I googled it all the results related to that. I know Dr. Google is bad and everything is usually cancer but still :P A little reassurance/advice would be good.

I get them too. Just in the first couple of days of my period. I just chalk it up to my pelvic region going nutty when I start to bleed.

Yep massive rectum cramps. Not such an attractive statement, but definately. Almost worse than the uterine cramps.

"Also, I've heard that sometimes certain cells that are in the uterus develop beyond the uterus, and even then, they are still all under the influence of the body's hormones."

-This would be endometriosis. Endometriosis is when the endometrium(a.k.a. uterine tissue) begins growing outside the uterus, and responds to the changes in the menstrual cycle.

Yes, it's pretty normal! The same hormones that stimulate your uterus to cramp also stimulate intestinal cramping/activity.

Yes and no. Sometimes it's the only symptom a woman gets with endometriosis, and sometimes it happens to a woman with completely normal menstrual cycles. The best bet is to check with a doctor. If you were having other symptoms, such as heavy periods, extreme cramping, pain during intercourse, ect, you would want to get checked out by a doctor.

Okay... I think this is what I've been having too... now I feel better knowing that it's prolly just different cramps.

To make your uterus contract, and jiggle the lining free to give you your period, your body sends little chemical messengers called prostaglandins. They come in waves and cause the crampy contractions we know and love :) Anyway, some of us are very sensitive to these signals, or we make a tad too many, and they make all the pelvic muscles like the bladder and gut cramp up too. Very normal. Means you might go to the toilet more, feel a bit sick, or have loose stools, or fart up a storm. Nature is beautiful!

I don't get bladder cramps, but I get cramps in my rectum too... but only before menstruation and its like a jolting pain that makes me kind of tighten up with pain lol. It sucks! Glad to know that its pretty normal though, I actually wondered that a lot.
