This has had me wondering for a while...I'd search through this journal but I really don't have the patience, so if this has been posted before, I apologize.

I was told by a friend that the birth control shot (depo..? I keep forgetting the name) is only good/will only work for women under a certain weight and that it doesn't really work at all for anyone over 140 or 150 lbs. (I might have the weight wrong but it was in the general area). I weigh 190..and I've been considerign getting this shot for a while, but hearing that, ehh..I don't know.

I just wanted to know if that was true or if she was pulling my chain. Can lil fatties like me get the shot (and have it actualy do it's job)? :\

Thanks in advance...

UM... Ive never heard of a weight restriction OR age restriction. My mom took the shot at 40 to stop her period... It backfired and she got it for 3months straight. As for the weight restriction.. NO I was on it through highschool and I weighed around 250 then. Worked just fine for me. Best thing to do is ask your dr.

I weigh around 180 i think, and i was on depo for about a year. the doctor said it was fine, and i didn't get pregnant. i didnt get my period, or the migraines i get on the pill, or any bad side effects, so it was great for me. i totally recommend it, although some women do have major problems on it. i've also read that the pill is less effective for women who weigh over 155 lbs, but i talked to my doctor about it, and he said that the difference was neglible.
I guess my advice would be to talk to your doctor to see if depo provera is right for you.

They adjust the amount of the drug that they give you to the proportion of bodyweight you have. It works effectively for anybody- just make sure you read about the side effects first. A lot of women either love it or hate it.

Good luck!

I suggest you go to their website (probably depoprovera.com or depo-provera.com, though I don't feel like looking it up for you) and read the patient information and the detailed package insert. If there are any restrictions as far as weight, it'll say so there.

Although you may not have the patience, it would be appreciated if you did some research on this before posting this to the community. Many members take out of their time to research things for members, and it's only fair that everyone does their part.

We are here to help, but we are no google! :)
