I wanted to mention this article. This has been a hot topic, and this article has only proved to me more why I do not like our current President. Many of you will remember an order issued by Bush two years ago to block family planning money administered by the U.S. Agency for International Development. Well he has now made a move to withhold U.S. family planning help from overseas groups that promote or perform abortions with their own money through the State Department.

I find it sickening that someone would make such a broad sweep to deny so many women the health, pre-natal, and other assistance they desperately need. I understand he personally does not agree with abortion, but many times abortion is necessary to save the mothers life, and by removing that money, he could be sentencing countless women to a death they could have otherwise avoided.

Perhaps if you live in the upper 1% like Mr. Bush you don't need to worry because you can afford high class medical insurance, but for the majority of the world's poor this adds a huge burden on them. Namely the world's poorest women and children.

Talk about your compassionate conservatism *sarcasm*.

And you know i'd be willing to bet, if one of his daughters had a high risk pregnancy and abortion was her only option to survive, he'd condone it in a heartbeat. Hypocrit.

Edit: Adding this statement from an article:

UNFPA estimates that, with $34 million a year, the agency can prevent 2 million unwanted pregnancies, nearly 800,000 induced abortions, 4,700 maternal deaths, 60,000 cases of serious maternal illness, and more than 77,000 infant and child deaths.

It really puts the severity into perspective.

The global gag rule is pathetic. Bush re-enforced it when he first became president, but I’m not surprised he's trying to make it even HARDER for anyone overseas to get access to abortions. It's literally extortion. He’s telling these family clinics abroad that if they DO promote or provide abortions the US will not give them money, but if they don't promote or provide abortions, they can have all the US money they want. What a bunch of fucking BULLSHIT.

Thats my biggest problem with it, like i said, sometimes and abortion is an option, its a necessity. And to deny women access to that is sickening.

Nothing like literally pushing american views on the world, sounds like blackmail, looks like blackmail, well then christ is must be blackmail.

And I read this in the article, I thought was perfectly clear saying:
"Bush opposes abortions, except in cases of rape or incest or when pregnancy endangers a woman's life."

IF you dont like it then maybe you should vote.

Um let me clarify something, he is deny money to any group that support or offers abortions, this includes groups that offer abortions to women in high risk pregnancies. And for you information I do vote, every single change i get.

Bush is a hypocrit, he says he opposes abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or pregnancy endangering the women, but proves the completely opposite with his actions.

It would be harder for him to make it illegal, that would go through congress. But he's doing what he has the ability to do, and one of those things is denying US aid to foundations that give pre-natal, health, and medical assistance to poor women in 3rd world countries and impoverish countries. And he's denying that aid solely based on the fact that some of those organizations use or promote abortion.

I highly suggest reading this article, this law is hurting people, seriously hurting people.

I will also mention that Bush also support the use of Abstinence only sexual education in school, this means children in school here in the US that learn about condoms and contraceptives are being denied better opportunities because Bush has blocked federal money to any school that does not teach and abstinence only sex ed course.

Beyond that after only a week in office Bush's first offical act was to reinstate the reagan era "gag rule". He has taken the key steps in working towards removing the right for women here even in the United States to decide that they want an abortion.

I don't mean to rant, but to me this is a HUGE issue. I don't agree that abortion should be a contraceptive, but i've had family saved by aborting a child that could have killed them. I don't think that right ever should be removed, its a women's body its her choice.

I wasn't able to vote in the last election, but i registered to vote purely so i could vote againts bush. I don't think one vote even slightly matters, but i'll do it anyway.

Good for you! I really mean it, alot of people complain so much they forget to vote. The only way your going to change anything is if you vote, you never know your vote may tip the ballance. Good luck!

I'm especially bothered by the fact that he's taking away funding for clinics that don't do abortions exclusively. They give birth control, prenatal care, and etc. It is extremely unfair and cruel of him to say, "I don't like it that you do abortions, so now you can't do anything to help family planning."
