I have a urinary tract infection and I can't get to the doctor's until monday. So, I was wondering...

one) What's going on?
two) How might I have gotten this...?
three) How can I ease the pain?
four) Can I get rid of this, or do I just... have to wait?
five) Is there anything I should know...? Just about what I have, or whatever?

Any help at all would really be nice. Thank you!

Easing the pain: buy Azo standard tablets at a drugstore. They will turn your urine orangish, but help help with pain.

Also, drinking lots of cranberry juice or taking Azo cranberry tablets (different from above) will help.

UTIs stink. :(

Walgreen's has them for $7 - basically, it doesn't fix the UTI, it just makes it stop hurting.

Azo Standard and Azo Cranberry are both $5.97 at Walmart, and they can be found in the Pharmacy with the pain relievers towards the bottom center of the shelves. I've been in 3 Walmarts to get them, always the same :)

Cranberry Juice has never helped me, so if it doesn't help you, don't get flustered. Azo Standard just kicks ass, though. And when you go to the doctor, half of your prescription is going to be the same thing (Pyridium) so if it's good enough for your doctor to give you, then there you go.

It helps me to drink lots and lots of water. At the very least it'll make sure there's actually something that can come out when you're running off to the bathhroom all the time.

When you go to the doctor, you'll probably be put on antibiotics. Those should fix you up pretty well.

urinary tract infection

urinals are what guys pee in. Your urinary tract is what is in you.

A UTI happens, basically, when bacteria that shouldn't be there gets into your urinary tract. Sex is a big culprit, because during sex bacteria can get pushed into your urethra, and then travel upwards. I don't know whether you're sexually active, but a big thing to remember to keep away UTIs is to ALWAYS pee after sex. Also, make sure you stay hydrated, because that can make a big difference too.

You can ease the pain with AZO tablets, or possibly just by drinking a *lot*. Water and cranberry juice are best. 100% cranberry juice, unsweetened, is the best thing to do, if you can. One thing though - don't take AZO too close to your doctor's appointment, as it can mess up the tests. Feel better soon!

Try to stay away from sweetened (with sugar) juices/drinks and caffeine while you've got an UTI. Bacteria love the sugar, and caffeine will dehydrate you. You'll want to keep your urine as diluted as possible. I used to buy frozen cranberries and eat them whole when I got UTIs...they're tarttarttart, but I'd get sick of drinking cranberry juice. Then I discovered cranberry powder pills....

You'll most likely get sore and irritated from peeing and wiping so often (if you're not already sore and irritated just from the UTI.) Wiping with baby wipes or a soft wet washcloth might feel better. General warmth from a heating pad might feel good, too.

If you get lower back (kidney) pain, go to the emergency room, urgent care clinic, women's clinic, or your doctor asap - a UTI can move into your kidneys, and from there get very serious and dangerous quickly.

I have always suffered from urinary tract infections, don't know why, but about 2-3 years ago, when with my ex, I got a particularly bad case and bled a lot with it and had to go to the sexual health clinic for a full going over/testing.
The main cause was sex, too much of it and passing back and forth all the sodding time - so I'd sugest that if you are sleeping with someone at the moment get them treated too or else you will pass it back and forth between partners fovever.
Another main cause of it with me was the way I was wiping myself, I now dab rather than wipe which if anything at least stops as much irritation.
As said, I've always suffered from it, I tend to keep baby wipes in the toilet for times when perhaps I am a little moist, if I notice odd colour/smell/cloudyness from my pee, if I feel a twinge of it comming on etc. etc. just to keep myself extra clean between daily showers.
If I do get it then I have a flannel which I keep for the sole purpose of using to clean myself whenever I have been to the toilet and make sure to keep that clean too and sometimes also use a LITTLE disinfectant in the water too - so warm clean water to wash 'down there' with after going to the toilet can help (and the heat eases the pain a little bit too, if only for a while).
Also medical talc is a bit of a god send too, just a little bit in my knickers can soemtimes help calm down any problems untill it clears up or I get it treated. Similar goes for canestine cream which can help cool things down and clear up any thrush that might also cause problems.
Then there are the usual things of drinking LOTS of water and cranberry juice (although personaly I can't stand the taste of cranberry). I'm also told yogert can help too.

about waiting for it to go away: BAD IDEA. infections only get worse over time.

when i had a bladder-kidney infection, for example, i thought maybe it would just go away on its own, because at first it didn't hurt so bad. but one morning i woke up and couldn't move because the pain in my kidneys was just devastating.

so as soon as you get the chance, i suggest seeking treatment.

another thing: those pills that turn your pee orange really work well for the pain. try em out.

one) What's going on?

its a bacterial or viral infection of your bladder, urethra, and/or kidneys.

two) How might I have gotten this...?

Having sex,the way you wipe, drinking lots of caffine, etc

three) How can I ease the pain?

Right now drink lots of water or cranberry juice. Get you some AZO and it will help. You can usually get it at walmart for like 5.97 i think. Then go see a doctor for antibiotics. You don't want it to get so bad that it starts bleeding when you pee. That hurts soooo bad. :P

four) Can I get rid of this, or do I just... have to wait?

see the doctor for antibiotics...

five) Is there anything I should know...? Just about what I have, or whatever?

nope i guess thats about it
