The visit to the EMO today was pointless. The doctor said that the cyst shouldn't be causing all these other physical problems, that it "shouldn't hurt there," and there is no more tests he can do on me. He has no clue what's wrong and he has given up. And, he said that with a cyst all I can do is wait for it to go away... but it's not going away. In fact, it's getting worse. I am in PAIN... and I am scared. And now I have to hunt for another doctor who is covered by dad's insurance, otherwise I can't pay for it. I have no clue where to even start. I'm sure dad and mom can help me with that aspect... but for once I'd like someone to know WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH ME????? I have the sypmtoms of a UTI, but I apparently don't have one. I'm having weird uterine contractions, but the pregnancy tests are all negative. I am bleeding from my cervix, which obviously is not normal. I am dizzy, I have a fever but no other sign of infection (at least, no positive test results of various infections.) The left side of my pelvis is all swollen and I'm feeling nauseated. WHAT...THE...HELL?????!!!!!!!?
I have no idea what the fuck I'm supposed to do. He suggested another gyno exam. That would be a huge problem for me. That would require them ripping open my cervix again... and my cervix already hurts like hell just from sitting in the wrong position.
If I don't get a break soon, I'm gonna scream.

A cyst can sometimes be a symptom of other forces at work, usually hormonal. And as everyone here can tell you, even those who just have PMS, hormones can be the culprits for a lot of uncomfortability. There must be another OBGYN on your dad's insurance, get a second opinion. Call your current doctors office and tell them to fax your file to this other gyno before your appointment so that the new doctor can be up to speed.

Any doctor that doesn't have an interest in putting the puzzle pieces together to figure out and treat what's wrong with you is not a real doctor!

Well, a pelvic exam shouldn't involve "ripping open your cervix." The only thing that should be done to your cervix is physical palpitation (feeling) and light scraping for a Pap smear if needed, which it sounds like it might not be since you're not trying to test for cancer, just find out what's going on.

You definitely need a second opinion. Call the customer service number on your insurance card and ask them for help in finding a referral.

You're also entitled to complain to your state medical board if you don't like the care you've gotten from a physician. A letter of complaint about how you were treated and how your concerns were written off might make you feel a little better.

Hi.

Um, you're having such a variety of problems that my first thought is simply to hope that you can find a better doctor that's covered by your insurance. That said, I'd like to respond to:

I have the sypmtoms of a UTI, but I apparently don't have one.

I get this too. In my case, it's "interstitial cystitis," which is not very well understood. You can get over-the-counter medications for the pain and the constant-need-to-pee that the "fake UTI" is giving you. (I cannot remember the brand name, but it turns your pee orange, and it works quite well as a pain reliever.)

When I was first diagnosed with this, I'd had it (off and on) for years, but all the doctors and nurses would say was that I didn't have a UTI because the pee tests came back negative for infection. When I was finally diagnosed as having interstitial cystitis, they gave me... antibiotics.

Me: But you said there was no infection!

Doctor: Well, but the antibiotics sometimes work anyway.

Right. Well, I'll take a placebo that doesn't give me a yeast infection, thanks. Anyway, the over-the-counter medication works for it.

I also bleed from my cervix, quite a lot, after my pap smear. I don't recall it ever being as painful as you say yours is, though.

The fever, swelling, nausea, and uterine contractions do not sound like interstitial cystitis to me (and in any case, I don't think you should assume that you have it unless you get diagnosed with it by a doctor, as you're having all these other symptoms). I hope very much that you're able to find another ob/gyn that's willing to listen to you.

I beleive that the over-the-counter urinary pain reliever is called Uristat, but you'd want to ask the pharmacist whereever you purchase it and they can point you to it.

Hope you feel better and I'd definately report your previous Dr.

K

The fever and swelling (large gland in your groin???) together would be what worry me. At least as much as the other symptoms. You need to find a doctor who will take your symptoms seriously. You need to find an acute care gynecologist and talk to them. When you're asking for referrals try to get one to a doc who does hospital based Gyn rather than standard preventative care. Maybe you'll get better insight. Good luck. That much cervical pain, combined with everything else, really sounds like a potentially serious infection which they aren't catching somehow on their lab tests. Get thee to another doctor.

I wish I had some clever advise, but I don't. Don't be scared, lady, I'll send some good thoughts your way. I know exactly how you feel, I had a wierd swollen lymph node that kept me running from doctor to doctor for almost a month.

A friend was recently having symptoms that resembled that and she had chlamydia. Easily curable, but can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease if not treated.

Get yourself to a better doctor-- heck, go to a free clinic. Tell them your symptoms. I've had very good experiences at free clinics.

Is it like this?:

The major symptoms of PID are lower abdominal pain and abnormal vaginal discharge. Other symptoms such as fever, pain in the right upper abdomen, painful intercourse, and irregular menstrual bleeding can occur as well. PID, particularly when caused by chlamydial infection, may produce only minor symptoms or no symptoms at all, even though it can seriously damage the reproductive organs.
