Does a cold sore always appear in blister form?

(Sorry if it's a bit off topic, but I'm absolutely paranoid that it will somehow transfer to genital herpes for me or my boyfriend when I'm giving/receiving oral sex)

I have what look like three or so tiny pimples on the edge of my mouth, not really on the lips but on the very corners of my mouth on the skin. They don't loook like blisters, so is it possible that they are just pimples from say...oily foods I ate and didn't quite clean off my lips so they clogged my pores? I break out really fast if there's oil involved.

Thanks for any input!

If it is a cold sore, you will be painfully aware of it. Do you wear lipstick? That could clog pores too.

Also, don't be too paranoid about the spread of herpes. I had a herpes scare recently, so I learned a lot about it, and it appears that if you pass Herpes 1 (oral) to the genitals, you can almost expect it not to be really bothersome or recurring, because the virus really prefers the mouth. Vice versa for Herpes 2. Also, you can infect your own vagina, which is really not as hard as it sounds... I think folk wisdom says something about avoiding contact during an outbreak, but I know there is also what they call "invisible shedding," which is where you pass the virus without having symptoms yourself.

Anyway, hope it helps at least a little, and good luck.

wow, speaking from experience that is NOT true. herpes simplex 1 or 2 can be transferred to either site and it is equally as painful and a lot more bothersome. the burning, itching, irratating, feeling you have, you want to rip each blister open and off. its horrible...i would rather have them on my lips anyday of the year than elsewhere. and herpes *cold sores* is just as contagious as the actual std itself.

but i do agree, the bumbs in the corner of your lip is most likely not herpes simplex...now just an fyi cold sores are herpes, but the actual std is referred to as herpes simplex, so if you were to go to the doctor for a cold sore they would tell you its a simple case of herpes!

but it is most likely not an std and its from the clogging of your pores!

good luck

i'm kinda in the same situation right now. i saw my boyfriend this weekend and we were fooling around on friday. and it looked like just a pimple, within the next two days it turned into a cold sore. ive heard and read many places that it's most contagious in the oozing stage, so if it isnt in that stage then it wont be as contagious, little to no contagiousness [if that's even a word.]

im not 100% sure, but i know cold sores have different stages and they blister, ooze, and then crust. im guessing it's not.

i am not sure what stage a cold sore *herpes* needs to be in to become contagious, but i do know that if you are a carrier of herpes simplex 1 or 2 *the std*, even if you have no blisters or outbreaks it can still be transmitted. it sucks a lot but it is very very true.

my suggestion, if you fear your boyfriend might have something, both of you go in for an std test at the health department, then you know for sure!

i was thinking though... so many people get cold sores. if it was always transmittable even without outbreak, no one would be able to kiss anyone, like ever, and that is not the case. i guess i'm just confused by what you said because at first you said you don't know when it is contagious and then you said it was contagious all the time, even without blisters.

i stated that herpes *cold sores* is what i am not sure about but i am sure that herpes simplex 1 or 2 *the std* is transmittable anytime even without site of an outbreak.

in summary...cold sores not sure
std...very sure

sorry for the confusion

I've gotten both lip pimples and cold sores. About a third of my cold sores have started out looking like little pimples. The main difference is that pimples either feel like nothing or just hurt a little. Cold sores itch a tiny bit -- more like a tingle -- when they're starting out, and then they start to hurt a LOT. Then, of course, they start looking like cold sores.

i used to get tons of pimples on my lips and freak out that they were cold sores or that people would think that they were. however my cousin gets cold sores, so i could tell from looking at her that mine definately weren't. maybe you could look up some pictures of herpes to allay your fears?
