Aug. 19th, 2003 12:16 amokay hi *waves* im fifteen, and i probably sound like the most immature person in the world, but i mean i've never really been comfortable enough to talk about it with my mom and my health classes arent that detailed. but when you have sex, should it be in the same hole where you bleed out of for your period? im sorry if im a total idiot, but i just wasnt completely positive *sigh* also, im going to have my first trip to the gyno to start going on the poll and im kind of nervous, is it really painful? (i have endometriosis if that makes any difference in pain level) any information you gals could give me would be very much appreciated :) thank you!

Date: 2003-08-18 10:17 pm (UTC)If you've never had stuff inside your vagina -- dildos, penises, etc. -- it might be a little painful, but let the doctor know that, so s/he can be much more gentle with you. The doctor can use a pediatric or otherwise very small speculum to look inside.
You might consider finding the most updated version of "Our Bodies, Ourselves" and looking through it, too. It's loaded with good info. Both the bookstore and the library should have it.

Date: 2003-08-18 10:21 pm (UTC)Endometriosis is a condition where endometrium (the lining of the uterus) is found in locations outside the uterus.
This misplaced tissue may be found on the ovaries, uterus, bowel, bladder utero-sacral ligaments (ligaments that hold the uterus in place), or peritoneum (covering lining of the pelvis and abdominal cavity). On rare occasions it can be found in other distant sites.

Date: 2003-08-18 10:21 pm (UTC)of course there's also anal and oral sex but i'm assuming you mean the vaginal sort.
i really don't mean that to sound condescending if it does. you know we're not born with this inherent knowledge of our bodies--it's really up to our parents and such to teach us, and if they didn't teach you, at least you still want to know, right?! i mean wanting to know how everything works is the biggest part of knowing/loving your body. so there's no shame in asking, especially here.
as for your first pap smear, your doctor will be able to help you with easing any of it, and while i don't know that exactly WHY you're going on the pill, i've had friends who've told me that going on a low hormone dose pill has reduced the pain from endometriosis greatly. tell your doctor you've never had a pap before and he/she will be able to get you a smaller speculum to use for the pap smear, and that will help a bit too. otherwise, if you feel any pain during it you should feel free to tell your doc, because it should not have to be a painful experience.
good luck!
