I'm not sure if I have a yeast infection or not (never had one before so...)

This month I started a new type of pill and finally my body decided it liked it. (No more vaginal dryness, I could actually get wet and have sex copious amount of lube = yay!)

But in the past few days I've had symptoms that made me think I may have a yeast infection.

A. slight itching which I put down to going a few days without shaving. Shaved and the itching went away.

(My discharge by the way is fine. Back to normal even with this new pill).

But I smelled myself this morning after a shower and my first thought was 'I smell like beer' which is a red flag for a yeast infection right?

slight itchiness + beer smell = yeast infection?

Thing is tomorrow I start my placebo pills so I should have my period in the next 2-3 days. So I don't really think I can treat a yeast infection with yogurt or garlic while on my period.

If I do have a yeast infection should I wait until it's over then treat?

Thanks so much.

I would probably do some treatment for the next couple of days at least. some people find that the bleeding helps clear up the yeast but i think that some people find that it doesn't, and i don't think that it would do any harm to try treating it now. You could eat the yogurt and insert the garlic and keep eating the yogurt during your withdrawal bleed

You CAN treat a YI on your period, if you want. It's also reasonably likely that it will go away on its own (or get way worse) because the blood changes the vaginal pH and may make it less (or more) hospitable to yeast. I'd also mention that if you think you have an infection, you may want to avoid internal menstrual products until you're all healed up, and if you're using pads anyway, the added garlic/yogurt probably won't be all that inconvenient. Personally, I'd wait just because it might go away on its own or get worse, which would mean more symptoms for you to be more certain of what it is.
