I'm 11 days late on my period. I'm always late, but NEVER past 6 days. I've taken two store pregnancy tests and both are negative. If I don't get my period by Monday, I'm going to Planned Parenthood and taking a test there to rule out pregnancy for sure. Now if the results are negative (which they probably are becuase it's not like my bf and I did a lot during my "fertile time") is it safe to start the pills (Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo) even though I don't have my period? I prefer to wait for my period but ugh! It's not coming! I have tender breasts and now and then I feel a bit of faint cramps (what I normally feel when I'm about to get my period, but I've been feeling this for the past week). I tried the parsely tea thing and it tasted like crap...so I'm waiting for it naturally...I feel empty inside...I want to BLEED!!!
Any suggestions?

I think someone posted about this relatively recently, so you're not the only one.

Anyway, I started taking the pill to regulate my cycle. Sometimes my period skips for a couple of months (egad), so my doctor told me that I should wait until about a month had passed after my last period, and if it didn't come, to just start taking it.

Basically, I did have some breakthrough bleeding during the last active week, and my period came before the placebo pills. It fixed itself by the next cycle. I also felt a bit PMS-ish for most of the first month (which made me think that maybe my period was about to come anyway, and I started the pills just before it came), but after the first pack I felt fine.

If you are 100% sure you are not pregnant, you can go ahead and take it if you don't want to wait. From my experience, any side effects from taking the pill when you haven't had your period (bloating, spotting early) go away after the first pack. Good luck. :)

You can start the Pill any time, but it's best side-effect-wise if you wait until your period because that's when your hormone levels are lowest. I was on OTC (regular, not Lo) and started my pack of pills a few days late one month, so my body had already started to release its own estrogen, and ended up throwing up in the middle of the night. You might also have spotting if you start it now because your body could go ahead and try to start the period if it had been about to have one before you started the pill pack. But it won't hurt you or anything if you don't wait for your period.

i used to skip months all the time. if you're not in any hurry and don't need the birth control any time soon, i'd recommend waiting until your body's on the right keel to start - otherwise you'll probably have a month of bad side effects. but if you're ready to go anyway, it won't kill you. =)

Question: How can you be "always late"? If you're always late ... doesn't that just mean your cycle is longer than the average?

My friend was four months late, took a test that came negative, got fed up and stated taking her pills.

Well, her period came on the placebo week, finally - and she said it was horrible enough to make up for lacking it the four months before.

Did she do a smart thing? Probably not. I'm not suggesting you do it, just saying others havqe. Try a doctor?
