My Dearest Vulva-Loving Superstars,

As several of you have requested, your friendly neighborhood VP Team members are taking this opportunity to let you get to know us a little better. We will take turns posting our bios for your reading pleasure. :) Check out the tag for this entry to view them all.

Of course, we want to get to know you, too, so if you haven't already and you'd like to, feel free to introduce yourself here, as indicated on the profile page. (Note that you can also now add yourself to the VP Frappr map from the intro page.) If you made your introduction a while ago and your life has changed dramatically since then, reply to your old comment and update us!

So here is

Hello lovelies!

My name is Caroline (pronounced Caro-lyn, thanks for the fun spelling/pronunciation differentiation there Dad,) or you can just call me Popples.

I am 23 years old, I am in a hetero committed monogamous relationship, and living with my partner. We celebrated our 6 year anniversary recently, it’s pretty dang awesome! We share our lives, home and love with two indoor cats, one outdoor foster cat and two recently acquired Betta fish. We currently reside in San Diego, CA and have for the past 6 years; this is something I’m hoping will change in the distant future. We are looking to move northwards when we are monetarily able to do so. I’m currently a student, working on my general education requirements, (a.k.a. classes that I don't enjoy) with hopeful aspirations of becoming a Midwife someday. Becoming a Midwife is the first possible future "career" I’ve ever thought about, that I feel would really make a difference. Making a positive difference in peoples lives is something that is incredibly important to me, doing something that will and does make a difference in the very instance that a new life is brought into this world is just... mind blowing.

I was raised in Ann Arbor Michigan and I am the youngest of a three child household. My parents are still together and they love and even like each other. This is something I find to be less and less common with those of my age range, and just in general. I’m constantly amazed and awed by my parents’ ability to maintain their love and friendship through all of the bits and pieces life has thrown at them. My oldest brother is significantly older then I am and I very rarely get to see him, my sister-in-law or my nephews and niece because I live so far away. My other brother is six years older then I am, and acquired a traumatic brain injury in 1997. This forever changed his life and the lives of my entire family. For better or worse my brothers car accident played a very significant role in shaping the person I am today. I know a fair amount about the brain and the ways in which it works, or isn't working. I also know a fair amount about alternative medicine; my parents quickly realized that western medicine was not going to cut it for the long road of recovery that my brother and family have been traveling on. I learned at a young age that life is not always, fair, fun or even enjoyable, but it keeps going if you let it and everything happens for a reason, just not necessarily a happy or good one. I also learned that you should always fight for what you believe in, and not to be discouraged by condescension. Learning to make educated decisions and standing by them is an important aspect of growing up, and I feel I learned at an early age, largely in part to my brother’s accident and my parents tireless dedication to his recovery. We, in my family like to refer to ourselves as "life long learners" -- learning from every aspect of life, all the time.

Besides being a student, a worker and a lover, I am also a creator; I’m an avid sewer and crocheter and do all manner of crafty things. One of my favorite things to do right now is sit at my sewing machine with an audio book on my mp3 player and go to town. I am obviously an old lady disguised as a mohawk sporting 23 year old. Ahem.

I love reading; I’ve been a fantasy fiction fan since my pre teen years. I love many a Harry Potter, Pullman and Pierce book. I also love all sorts of other fiction and non fiction, and comic books. I am currently reading "The Guide to Childbirth" by Ina May Gaskin and it's awesome. Reading is one of the things I can’t imagine my childhood without, or my life now. Boredom and teevee would consume me without all the amazing words. I’m also a big time music fan, my music taste is vast and inclusive of all different types of music.

I’m a passionate alternative menstrual product advocate (check out my etsy shop: C-Pop Commodities) and an avid advocate of stopping the spread of misinformation about sexual health. As a teenager I was not as aware of the amount of misinformation that was out there, and the person I have to thank for that is my Mom. I am so grateful to her for providing me with the factual information that was the mere beginnings of my knowledge about sexual health. Long before my period started she was very upfront with truthful and non-judgmental information concerning sexuality, sexual activity and sexual health, including her desire for me to abstain till I felt comfortable and ready.

Beyond loving and respecting my biological family, I also have a lot of love and respect for my friends. They are a very integral part of the person I have grown to be, I am an extremely loyal friend and love many of my friends as the family that they are.

I have been a member of VP for 4 years or so, I can’t remember exactly when I joined (oops!) and the amount of information and knowledge I have gained from this community is immeasurable. I’m proud (and grateful) to be a part of a community that is so passionate and committed to stopping the spread of misinformation in the most empowering and supportive ways possible.

lol - as someone finishing up pre-req's for nursing (i already have a bach in biology and almost finished an MS in Micro) i can understand that, but i am going the CMN route as where we live (and plan on con't to live) they are not very CPM friendly and i have no desire to add in another layer issues, so the CNM it is for me. I have total respect for CPM's and wish you the best of luck in your pursuit!
