hopefully i get all of the months right, i really don't track my period. it'd probably be a good idea to start.

my period's always been a little off, coming at a different time each month, but coming each month nonetheless. september was normal (well, normal for me) and then i didn't have it in october or november. in december, i got it for almost 3 weeks straight, and it was heavy all the way through. in january, i got somewhere around the middle of the month. i didn't have it for february or march, then this month i got it about 2 weeks ago. when it (think it) ended, i started noticing some brownish discharge. i wasn't sure if it was my period still, or just blood mixed in with normal discharge. and then a few days ago i am now sure that i am on my period again.

now, after summer and about half way through september ended, i went through a lot within about 2 months. it's really been affecting me mentally, but it's been a long time since then so i've grown used to feeling how i'm feeling about all of it. i thought it might have been stress for a while, but i really don't want to think that all of that it messing with not only my mind but my body. /:

so, what should i do? would a doctor's appointment be a good idea?
and, what (other than stress, even though as much as i don't want it to be i'm pretty sure that's the reason) else could be causing this?

i'm 15, if that helps at all.

If it's affecting your life, you should see a doctor about it. That being said, it's probably not caused by anything other than wonky hormones, which is pretty normal if you're 15. However, it doesn't mean you can't do something about it, if it's a problem for you. The doctor might run some tests, but they'll probably want to put you on hormonal birth control to regulate your period.

Also, if you want to track your period, check out http://monthlyinfo.com/. . . it's really easy to use and won't send you any spam.

i went through the same sort of dilemma when i was fifteen (i'm nineteen now). i went through a really tough time and my period either came at really unexpected times or my body would skip it completely while still going through uncomfortable PMS symptoms (cramps, mood swings, cravings, the works). of course your situation could be different, but in my experience my stress levels definitely affect my cycle.

if you feel that going to a doctor would ease your mind, i would say go for it! knowing more about what's happening with your body is never a bad thing. if you feel that your stress is affecting your life and/or your ability to function, i would also recommend seeking out a therapist or minister - basically someone to talk to who has the tools to help you deal with what's going on in your life and your head. i hope you figure it out, good luck!

i had the same problem through my teen years and my first year of college. they did some blood work and found out i had an overactive thyroid; i would get my period for 2 months straight (ekkk i know!) and then i wouldnt see it for another two months.

they put me on hbc to regulate, but they still check the thyriod once a year.
