Sorry if there have been previous posts about this, but I have a relatively urgent question pertaining to tampon removal.

I've always had problems with tampons, and over the past few months, I've been making an effort to get one in. Today I made much progress. It was mostly in, but the applicator was giving me a bit of pressure, which made me nervous, so I slowly pulled it out...trying to keep the tampon in the appliicator. Well, I failed. It's in there...and not all the way. It's stuck. It gives me pain, I can't even sit down in my chair to type this: I'm kneeling. I tried to pull it out, but I think it's too dry to get out. It's close enough to the outside that I can see the very tip of it, so I tried splashing water up there...didn't work. It also hurts when I bend over. I just started my period this morning, so it's not too heavy. Any ideas as to how I can pry this thing out?

You may want to try getting some lube around the entrance of your vagina and then bearing down like you need to poop as you pull on the string.

When this has happened to me, I've just yanked it out, in spite of being uncomfortable. =/

Maybe someone else will have more helpful ideas.

Well, I'd grab some lubricant, lube up your thumb and pointer, push them alongside the tampon as far as you can, grasp firmly, and pull. The more wet the tampon itself gets, the larger it will get, so you'll want to work quickly if it's the size giving you a problem.

The blood can lubricate the tampon, but because the tampon is so absorptive, it takes a while for it to become saturated enough to not just be dry dry dry. If you're using a tampon as it's designed to be used, it being saturated enough to slide out easily means it's time to change it. If you have to remove it early for whatever reason, it can be kind of uncomfortable.

Yep, what you said.

Sit in the bath filled with water. It'll get in there and fill up the tampon which will make it wet so it won't hurt as much.

Came here to say this.

To the OP: I'm sorry this happened. You might consider tampons without applicators, as they're often easier to insert.

No problem. After the initial moment of "I have to stick my finger how far up my vagina?" I find that I really do prefer them. The box is smaller, they produce less waste, they're more comfortable. :D

i have always been terrified of tampons without applicators... and i love me some tampons (minus times like this that the OP is having. dry removal of a tampon is so disturbing). are they really that easy to use? cause if i could be convinced to try them, that'd be awesome. cut down on waste a bit.

I've been using tampons for almost a decade, and found OB without applicators to be much, much easier. It took a second to get over the initial feeling of "OMG, I'm sticking my finger in my vagina," but I find them to be easier to position (I know exactly where I'm pointing that thing) and easier and and more comfortable to insert. Plus, OB tampons themselves are much more comfortable for me.

Band-aid-on-hairy-body-part method IMO. Close your eyes, bear down, grab the string, and yank. It will hurt but it will also be over!

Glad it's over! There are really few things as unpleasant as the feeling of a dry tampon scraping the vaginal walls as it tries to hold on for dear life.

Oh, man. There are few things in the world that feel as bad/weird as pulling out a tampon that is too dry. It's awful. Agh!

Seriously, it's so bad. I tried explaining this to my fiance and he just didn't understand why I couldn't pull out the tampon I'd just put it to have sex.

That's my point, I had just put a tampon in and he wanted me to take it out so we could have sex. No way was I up for that.

seriously. and on top of that i have this wierd sensory issue with cotton where it drives me INSANE. can't touch cotton balls, q-tips creep me out when i hear the fibers... basically anything cotton-y can make me feel sick. it's really really really horrible. so i use plastic applicators so i don't have to feel the cottony tampon going in and any time i have to take it out when it isn't properly wet i just want to die.

cotton feeling+ripping of insides=absolute hell
