Hey guys,

I tried searching and couldn't find an answer to this question.

This is my first month on Alesse 28. I'm on the 3rd day of my placebo week and no "period" yet. What happens if I get to the end of the placebo week and my period hasn't made an appearance? I'm pretty sure you can't have more than a 7 day placebo week, and I would have to start back on the active pills according to schedule, but what does that mean for my protection? I'm going on vacation on May 1st - 8th. My period was SUPPOSED to fall on the 9th, the day after I leave, which is the 3rd day of my placebo week (this is just what the doctor told me)...Should I be concerned if I don't get a period this month and will it come earlier in my placebo week next month?

Thanks!

Every BCP is different, if it hasn't come by the time you are supposed to start your next pack start it. It shouldn't come earlier as long as you are taking the pills on time, but just to be sure I'd bring tampons with you on vacation.

It's very common for withdrawal bleeds to start in the middle or later of a placebo week, or not show up at all -- the HBC's effects can include a thinner uterine lining, which the uterus looks at and says, "Are you crazy? There's not enough to bleed this time!"

You are correct -- don't go longer than 7 days without active pills. And as said above, it's unlikely that you'll start bleeding on the active pills, but take along "supplies" just in case.

That help?

Some people actually don't get periods on BCP at all.

Myself, it varied from pill to pill. The one I'm on currently (technically, the ring), I don't start until the 5th or 6th day into the placebo week. Makes for a very short period! :)
