I've been on Alesse for the past 5ish months and i've noticed that i've had such uncontrollable rage that it makes me literally sick to my stomach. Today for example, i was blowdrying my hair and my hair wasn't drying fast enough, so i suddenly got extremely angry and threw my hairbrush so hard against my bed it split in half. I was shaking so much and grinding my teeth, and i literally thought i was going to explode if i didn't start punching something HARD. When these episodes are over i start crying and become so overwhelmed with guilt that i feel nauseous. I've also screamed at just about everybody i know for absolutely no reason, which scares them because I'm NEVER like this. I've even broken dishes in my kitchen and cracked a floor tile from one of the episodes.

I've heard of people having bad mood swings on HBC, but i really don't think this is normal. I've NEVER had a history of anger problems, and i was completely fine until i went on this pill. I was on yasmin before this pill and also had bad side effects, minus mood swings.

Anyone have any advice? I know i obviously need to talk to my doctor about this, but i'm worried that since Alesse and Yasmin are both two of the lowest combination pills and i've had horrible experiences with both, HBC just won't work for me at all.

I recently got off the nuvaring and was experiencing something similar. I was clenching my teeth all the time and I was just ANGRY. About everything. I screamed at my cats at my boyfriend at everything!

I've been off a little over a month and I laugh all the time now :) I feel like me again! It might be worth taking a month off and seeing if you change.

PLEASE stop taking these pills: Nothing is worth going through what you are. Hormonal birth control isn't for everyone. See a doctor as soon as you can and discuss all your options. I've never been on the Pill or had rages but I have had adverse reactions to medication. For this to still be going on months in would suggest a bad reaction rather than just settling in woes (my doctor told me never to dismiss a new medication unless I had been on it a few weeks and was still suffering (this tactic backfired when I was given lamotrigene (an anticonvulsant) a few years ago and was so ill I couldn't eat for weeks).

A good friend of mine went on low dose birth control pills and it nearly ruined her marriage because she was so angry all the time. Turns out her levels of hormones are already high and when she added the pills it was like over dose time. So, she doesn't take anything anymore and her husband got himself snipped (they have three kids already) and they are still married. Like ljquin said: hormone therapy is not for everyone. If I were you, I'd start looking around for some other options. This one obviously isn't working for you. I hope it gets better.

Your experience sounds pretty much exactly like my experience with all HBCs. I highly recommend that you stop taking them, use backup protection, and speak to your doctor about non hormonal alternatives (like a copper IUD).

Good luck to you!

Talk to your doc; some people (sadly) just don't agree with HBC. All is not lost, though: you may be interested in a copper IUD. This one is available in the states: http://www.paragard.com/

It sucks that your pill has you feeling this way. Best of luck.

I usually suggest people try sticking with a new HBC for a month so the effects can settle. This is not one of those usual times. Stop taking them now!
These not working for you doesn't mean no other type will, just be explicit with your healthcare practitioner that you must have one with a very different hormonal balance this time. I know from experience that different pills can have hugely different effects.
I really really feel for you. Hope you feel better soon. x

Sorry, having re-read your post, I think I should add that maybe it would be best if you try a non-combi pill? I'm on a POP, and I love it. Not saying it will definitely work for you, but maybe it'd be worth a try.

There are lots of other pills out there...also low-dose besides Yasmin and Allesse, and also non-combination pills ans triphasic pills...if only we had some sort of test where you could see which pill works for your body without having to play guessing games until you find one that works.
I've also heard that taking b-vitamins while on hbc can sometimes help with the moody side effects. Good luck.
