so this is extremely confusing ..

i was set to start my new birth control this sunday. my period was due wednesday and never came. i took a pregnancy test on friday night and it said i was not pregnant. my mom does not know i am sexually active (but she does want me on the pill for other reasons). i started it today even though i didn't get my period yet. was this a verrry stupid move?

btw, the line telling me i wasn't pregnant was a littttle faded, but clear and easy to read. was the slight fade a bad test and should i get another?

also should i keep with the bc, or stop after the one pill i took today :/ ughhh

Keep taking the pill. If you do happen to be pregnant, it's not going to do anything bad. I would take another test just to be sure (doesn't sound like anything was wrong with yours, but it might ease your mind), but it is fairly common to randomly skip periods while on the pill.

It's bound to make your cycle a little wonky - this bleed might come late, early, longer, shorter, heavier, lighter...the list goes on. When your body is getting adjusted (or readjusted, if you've been on it before) to HBC, bleeds tend to go haywire for a bit.

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] shil that a retest - maybe in a week or so? - would probably ease your mind.

Also, keep in mind that because you did not start the pill on the first day of your period, you will need backup protection according to the insert in your pill pack.

It may be - in fact, probably is - utterly unrelated to the pill. I've been having periods for twelve and a half years and they've never been remotely predictable, on HBC or off - sometimes I bleed three times in a month, sometimes I don't bleed for six months; sometimes I bleed for three days, sometimes for two months straight. I am an extreme case, yes, but it is remarkably rare to find a woman who does not experience some menstrual irregularity at some point in her reproductive life, even if briefly. My suspicion is that this is the case here. There is probably no real reason for it whatsoever.

Sometimes periods are just weird and randomly late for no reason, especially if you're in your teens or early twenties. Pregnancy tests should be accurate 2-3 weeks after sex, I believe, so you could test again in a while if you wanted to make absolutely sure you're not pregnant, but I would probably keep taking the pill for now. :)

Pregnancy tests do tend to be most accurate with first morning urine (you mentioned testing at night), so you may want to take another one just to be sure. But it should be fine to keep taking the pill in any event.
