Hey gals! It's been a LONG time since I posted. Guess everything has been going "good" down there for a while. . .

Anyway, I am experiencing what is pretty heavy breakthrough bleeding. (As in, borderline, a real period) I just applied my third week patch yesterday. I have NEVER had breakthrough bleeding, and I have been using Ortho Evra for two+ years.

Here's are some details: I have been under a fair amount of stress over the last week. I have lost approximately 7 lbs in the last three weeks. I have heard that stress can bring on break through bleeding, but since I have never experienced it (until possibly now) I don't know how valid that is.

maybe I am just looking for reassurance. I went through the entries and the sidebar links under several different topics, but couldn't find a post similar to mine. I am sure that there is, SOMEWHERE though.

Thanks for any info you can give me!

Stress can definitely cause wonky bleeding. The one time I had spotting on the Patch was when I was violently ill with a flu and my body was majorly stressed. Go ahead and use your Patch for the rest of the week and then remove it (so your pregnancy protection remains the same), and keep to your old Patch schedule even with the bleeding. It's possible that this month was just an overload of stress on your body and next month you will return to normal. If it happens a few months in a row though, your body is probably just done with using the Patch.

this same exact thing happened to me. i had been on the patch for about 4 years with no problems. i was actually really happy with it. then one month i had pretty heavy break through bleeing for the first time. i got nervous so i saw my regular doc, who told me it was nothing to worry about and normal. she said it may contine to happen off and on for a while.

im a pretty busy lady and really dont have time to worry about random bleeding, so i inquired about an IUD. she referred me to a gyno, and 3 weeks later i had a mirena inserted. and i loooove it. way better than the patch. i dont have a period at all anymore, which is amazing.

hmmm... i understand. i was just relating my personal experience.

well, if breakthrough bleeding is your only complaint with the patch, and nothing else has/will work(ed) for you, i would stay with it and hope it was just a one time thing. my doc said it could keep happening, or it may not. i personally didnt want to take the chance, and i had had my eye on and iud for a while anyways. its not compromising your protection though (i dont think) so i would wait it out and see what happens.
