so i just took my BC pill
and... you know when sometimes you take a pill of sorts and it just kinda feels like its stuck in the back of your throat
like you can feel it there, not like something you can reach but you know its there
well.. it's there
i've been downing water but i can still feel it
should i take another?
will it just dissolve and be good?
will i not be protected?
WHAT DO I DOOO?!

sorry i'm kinda freaking out, there's probably a simple answer here.

Are you sure it's still there? Sometimes a pill going down can "scratch" a layer of mucous on the back of the throat, making it feel like something's stuck there when it's not. I used to get that a lot with Tylenol. If you've been drinking a lot of water and it still feels like it, that might be what's going on.

I think you're protected even if it dissolved there, anyway, but I could be wrong. I'm sure others will have more info on that.

Yes, this. I used to have a lot of trouble taking pills, and they'd "stick" in my throat. Oftentimes, they just get stuck for a second, but they irritate the lining of your throat, then move on. It feels like it's still there (my godmother used to call it "lump in the throat disease!") but it's just the irritation.

Drink plenty of water, and usually the feeling will pass. Even with little bitty pills like HBC, it's best to drink a glass of water when you're taking them.

drink stuff, yeah, and maybe eat something to push it down? or maybe it's just the grainy bit making you think it's still there?
regardless, i think it's getting into your system anyway.. so don't freak out.

Eat something with texture, like a piece of bread or fruit. Something that can get your saliva and your throat working. Should work the pill down or get rid of that feeling, if it's just a feeling. Hey, it works with my dog!

Second this -- I was always told to eat bread to help with this.

I can tell you how to solve this - I have HUGE PROBLEMS taking pills for the exact same reason you talked about here. What I do is take a drink of water, hold it in my mouth, look up, drop the pill in my mouth with the water and swallow it all. This works for all kinds of pills from small BC pills to large multi vitamins. People laugh at me ALL the time for doing this and tease me for not being able to take pills properly, but it WORKS! Also, none of them stick in my throat and I can't taste the pill. I hate the tastes of pills!

I do this too, mostly because I'm worried the pill will dissolve on my tongue (like other pills have done that to me before). It always goes down a lot better and easier. So you're not the only one! I get laughed at too! =D

Oh, I thought that was the normal way to take pills.

That's how I've always done it, haha.

Oh, and you should be fine as long as it dissolves in your body..I'm sure if you've downed a bunch of water you are fine. Don't take another one! :P

Even if it did get stuck there, it still will have dissolved into your blood stream, which is what you want. Truthfully, it doesn't matter much where the pill dissolves - you could insert it into your vagina (some women do) and it would work that way too.

I had no idea people did that.

Do you have a source for this? As far as I know, this is not an effective way to take oral contraceptives.

I don't know that I would insert them vaginally all the time, but it's not completely crazy either:

It will dissolve, although it may leave a "burn mark" in your throat which can get irritated. I had this problem after taking a Motrin and it got stuck. You can google "pill stuck in throat".

But, since the pill WILL dissolve, you should be fine. But the feeling you have is likely pill residue and it will eventually go away.

I'd gargle the water instead.
