Okay, so I got a yeast infection this week. Not totally abnormal, I get them from time to time especially if I've engaged in oral sex (which I rarely do for just that reason). Anyway, like I have in the past, I got a one-day treatment for it and put it in Thursday night. By Friday evening I was feeling pretty much back to normal -- itchiness mostly gone, etc. That's what's happened in the past -- the itchiness is generally almost gone within 24 hours and gone within 48, and the discharge gets more normal, etc. Now, my itchiness/soreness is all gone, but I'm still discharging some (though less), and it stills smells really fishy (as it did before). Is this normal or is there anything else I should do? I know 1-day treatments sometimes take more than 1 day to fully clear up, but I never noticed a continuing funny-smelling discharge in the past. On the other hand, my last two YIs both came sometime around the week after my period, when I'm not normally discharging. I'm expecting my period tomorrow or Monday and discharge right beforehand is kind of par-for-the-course. I considered it could be BV, but it feels just like YIs I've had before. I won't be able to see a doctor before Tuesday at the earliest and by then I'll be on my period, which I assume would kind of mask it (though I've heard getting a period can help flush out remaining bacteria, don't know if there's any truth to that.) Anyway, this was rambling, but I just wanted to know if this sounds totally out of the ordinary for a YI, and if there's anything I can do at home (yogurt, acidipholous I know of) for either a YI or BV?

Thanks!

I've always used the 1-day treatments for my YIs (though I know a lot of women say the 1-day treatments don't always clear their YIs up the first time around). 1-day treatments aren't mean to actually get rid of your YI in one day, the little egg that you insert melts and you absorb the stuff (for lack of a better word) and it works over the course of about a week - I believe it's just a more concentrated dose of what is in the more extended treatments. It's not uncommon for me to keep having not-quite-normal discharge for a while after the other symptoms subside. For me, that usually the first symptom to appear and the last to disappear. I also know that a fishy smell is a common sympton of BV (I've never had it). I'd say that if you're not uncomfortable and you're getting your period soon, I might wait until after your period to see if your discharge and smell are back to normal and if not, then go from there. :)
