How big of a risk are you taking to skip the condom while you're a perfect user of Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo and on your period? Not factoring in STDs/STIs -- I only want the chance for pregnancy. I understand the chances are slim simply knowing I'm a perfect user of the pill, but does being on my period make the chances any lesser? Thanks!

EDIT: He did not ejaculate inside of me. I do, however, understand precum. Just something else for you guys to factor in...

Birth control is designed to be a woman's sole form of protection and that protection still works during your pill free week. Your chances are very, very slim if you're a perfect user and practically nonexistent if he didn't ejaculate.

Birth control works to prevent ovulation. The bleeding you get is just withdrawal from the hormones, so no, you don't really have an increased risk.

It's not really your period, it's withdrawl bleeding, but if you've been taking it perfectly you are just as protected as while taking the pills with hormones.

As the above poster said, the pill is designed to be your sole form of contraception. If you really are a perfect user, there is really no need to worry at all :)

I was on the pill for eight and a half years with no pregnancy and no other methods (am on the ring now). I was an almost perfect user. It really is reliable.

Same. Been over 9 years for me now. Never had a scare, and I can be a sloppy user at times.

I don't think that being on your period makes a difference one way or another, if you are on HBC.

Using the pill plus withdrawal means you are almost definitely not pregnant. :) The chances are super super super slim.

In 1000 women who take the pill perfectly, only 1-2 will become pregnant in an entire year. If withdrawal is practiced "perfectly," only 4-6 women in 100 will become pregnant in a year.

So if you add those two together, your risk of becoming pregnant in an entire year of having non-ejaculatory intercourse on the pill is extraordinarily tiny.

On hormonal birth control, you are equally protected at all times during the pack -- you're not more or less protected on your placebo week.
