Ok, this isn't directly related to my vag, but it's the same ballpark, I like to think. It's horribly embarrasing. Years ago--when I was in high school, probably 5 or 6 years at least--my mom stupidly told me if my peach fuzz on my chin and upper lip bothered me, to just shave it. I'd already tried waxing and I stopped just cos I couldn't afford it anymore. So when it grew back, she said to shave it.
I did.
Now I have to shave at least once every day, more if I want to make out with my boyfriend. He found out about it, though, and said I should just let it grow, that I could bleach or wax it once it's a normal length. He said it's just the stubbly feeling that bothers him, that if I let it grow back to normal it wouldn't even be noticeable probably.
But I've been letting it grow since Wednesday morning, and it feels disgusting. It's sickening. I am dying to shave it just to be smooth for at least a few hours. He says to keep letting it grow, that soon it won't be stubbly, just like long hairs anyone would have on their face. But I don't know.
I guess what I'm asking is when it'll be long enough to wax. I once tried abstaining from shaving before, and tried to get waxed on like the 4th day, and no hairs came out. The woman said to wait for at least 10 days of growth. I don't know if I can stand this feeling that long! Plus, I have work next week, and I am afraid customers will be able to see the stubble. I can see it in the mirror if I look close.
I've googled, and it said most waxing, you should have hair at least 1/4 an inch long. I don't know how long that is though..how many days does that translate to? How do you all take care of your face hair?
Thanks :(

I don't know if this is a solution for you, but have you considering using a chemical depilatory, like Nair? As a short term solution, it may help to get rid of the hair now, and when it grows back in, it will appear to be finer (because the hair shaft isn't being cut), and you can let it grow 1/4 inch and then return to waxing.

You could try a depilatory cream? I have the same problem, hair on my upper lip, which I hate. I end up using a depilatory cream about once every two weeks. The hair grows back reasonably soft, much softer than if I shave it (which I did, once, like you when I was younger). The cream leaves my lip feeling lovely and smooth, and sure, it's only REALLY smooth for a couple of days, but it's better than shaving (and I'm a wimp, so I don't want to wax!)

Depending on how -many- hairs you're talking about... how about just plucking with tweezers? I've got gross granny-mole hairs and others on my chin that get taken care of like that. I haven't ever shaved them, though.

Good luck!

For me, 1/4 inch would have been 1-2 weeks, and my facial hair grows fast. Keep in mind that many people experience faster and thicker growth after waxing, though you might not have that problem.

I had the exact problem as you. I was shaving for years until I gave up and got laser hair removal. The laser made the hair grow faster, thicker, and longer - the opposite of what it was promised to do.

Then I looked into electrolysis, and after nine months, I am close to being hair-free. I never shave anymore. Plus, they can treat the hair when it's fairly short (2-3 days of growth). It can be painful and it takes patience, though. Just a suggestion in case it was something you might have considered. If you're interested in it, I can give you move information.

It's great that your boyfriend is so supportive. My now-husband was also supportive and it made the process a lot easier.

Electrolysis usually costs about $25 to $150 an hour for treatmen. The place I went charge me $45 dollars.

For sugaring, your hair usually needs to be about 1/8 inch long, and for me, that's about a week and a half. Call the salons you're thinking about going to and ask them. Keep in mind that seeing it in the mirror if you look close means that no one else will notice - people don't inspect other people that closely, you know?

all i can tell you is that my waxer refused to wax my undersarms because i hadn't let the hair grow for long enough. she basically told me that if she waxed them, i'd have to come back in a few days for another waxing. i would assume that if you wouldn't mind going back a few days later that some places might try it for you.

I had the same problem, but under my chin. I had to let it grow out for a week (I was SO irritated and HATED feeling the stubble) and then used nair. It helped but it didn't get all of it because I didn't let it grow out long enough and I had to do it a second time. It was really irritating to my skin too. :(

I've read that facial hair grows back completely in two weeks.
I love waxing, but recently to save money I bought one of these (http://www.amazon.com/Braun-5270-Silk-%C3%A9pil-Xelle-System/dp/B000EZYKTS/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1220143006&sr=8-3). It is pretty great for legs and armpit hair. My mom grows blonde hair on her chin and upper lip, so she borrowed it from me and loves the results. I have since purchased her her own. It might be something you'd be interested in, as it does the same things as waxing.

I actually shave my lip and sideburns, and pluck my chin. The lip hair on me at least doesn't grow back too stubbly, so by the time it's long enough to shave again (3-4 days or so) it isn't noticeable and feels fine. The sideburns do get a bit stubblish, but my hair covers them. :)

Unfortunately I have no advice on waxing, as I'm too much of a wimp for that stuff. :(

I get threading from a middle eastern salon, who do my eyebrow shaping and full face threading. I strongly recommend it if you can find someone in your area. Before I found someone, though, I tweezed my lip hair, and lived with the rest (which isn't too profuse.) It was pretty tedious, but I am scared of shaving or Nair, and waxing/sugaring on my face makes me breakout. I still tweeze my lip in between going in for eyebrow shaping. HTH.

I just waxed my mom's lip lol.

I tried shaving once and it was really stubbly. I really recommend that you go back to waxing. I do it and really enjoy the results.

Your boyfriend is obviously cool with it, so if I were you I'd let it grow back. Remember that nobody probably notices it because they don't look that closely at your lip (ie you know it's there and are consciously looking) and even if they did notice, it would be really poor form to make you feel bad about it.

I second threading. There's no real length requirement to hair removal. You can pay someone or learn how to do it yourself (but from experience it's hard to do).

When it comes to tweezing it hurts less after a shower and I wash my face.

and i wouldn't worry about lip hair you have somebody that doesn't care about it.

You really don't need a quarter inch for facial hair. I wax the hair on my upper lip when it's just barely growing, and it works fine :)

first off, kudos to the boyfriend for being so awesome about it.

secondly, THREADING. check salons in your area to see if they offer it. its like tweezing but way faster haha.

Threading. You can learn how to do it for yourself after you've seen it done a few times, and if it's done right it pulls the hair out by the root, unlike shaving. Which means that while it's growing back the itchy stubbly feeling won't happen.
