OK, so I missed my period completely this month, took a home pregnancy test this morning (it's the 7th day after I should have had my period) and it was negative. So, I have been looking up other causes for possible missed periods and I found somewhere out in the questionable world of the internet that going off birth control can cause missed periods.

At the beginning of the month I switched off of my usual Ortho TriCyclin Low as its no longer covered under my insurance to something called Aviane. Does anyone know if this switch could have the same effect as going off birth control all together? Has anyone else experienced missed periods on this pill?

I'm not over or underweight, havn't been sick, although I am pretty stressed these days... are there any other common reasons for a missed period?

Thank you all in advance for you responses

Stress is a common reason for a missed period.

I thought stress can delay/stop ovulation.. not menstruation. the delayed ovulation just pushes back your period.
and to me since she wouldn't be ovulating on the pill, it couldn't be stress.

I would LOVE for someone to tell me that there's other ways of stress affecting it while on the pill. I'm on day three of the off week after taking five weeks of pills in a row (with two missed pills near the end) and I haven't had so much as a mild cramp or spot when usually I'm pretty heavy by this point.. and I'm freaking. it's soo unlikely but all reason is out the window at the moment. So, someone (queensugar?!?! hahaha) please tell me that on the pill you can miss periods randomly or get them late.

Actually, its quite possible to skip an occasional period on the pill. Since your "period" is actually just uterine lining, and since your HBC thins that, occasionally it will thin it to the point of no bleeding. On top of that, you've had two extra weeks, and it is very common to skip when you've taken more than 21 pills at a time.

I've been exactly on time for four years on it and usually when stacking if I miss a pill I have breakthrough bleeding within 2 days so that's why I'm freaking out even though logically I know it's probably nothing.

:)

I don't have much time at the moment, but if you check the Vulvapedia, you'll see we note that it's very normal to skip periods here and there while on HBC.

That said, you haven't skipped one yet. You've only on placebo day 3, and it's really normal for periods to come at any time during the placebo week. Even if they usually came on one particular day, they can randomly change... and stuff like taking five weeks of pills instead of three can really throw your body's bleeding rhythm out of whack like that.

I'm trying to just be calm and wait.
feels weird to be praying for back pain and cramps because that's how I know it's coming hahaha.

Many women experience missed periods due to stress. I doubt it has anything to do with the birth control, but I'm not exactly a health professional. For now I think you're fine, but if you miss next month too, then I would suggest going to see an OBGYN.
