Alcohol and Sex

Sorry if this isn't appropriate for this community. It's the only one I am a member of and trust for this sort of advice.
This is just something I've been curious about for a while.
If I drink (not necessarily to the point of drunkenness, but usually slightly past tipsy), I often find that my sex drive almost disappears. Is this common? It seems strange to me, and none of my friends have mentioned this as a problem for them.
It's not a problem for me, because it rarely works out quite right for the boy when we've been drinking anyhow, which is something that I knew of and expected in men.. but is it normal for women as well?
I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas what could cause it? I'm just sort of curious about the concept of a libido in general and why it can be such a finicky thing.
