i had my second appointment with my gynecologist today (which was wonderful! i'm so lucky have a great doctor, i didn't want to leave) and after a year on yasmin, have decided to switch to nuvaring, and i am very excited about it. i'm hoping it will help with emotional side-effects that i think are coming from yasmin. i have heard that nuvaring overall causes less side effects, but i have a few questions that i forgot to ask at her office.


1. yasmin really helped clear my skin, and i'm nervous that changing will make it worse again. i know it won't affect me the same as it does others, but has anyone who has switched to the ring noticed differences in their complexion?
2. my dr. said it's okay (though she doesn't advocate it) if i take the ring out while having sex, as long as i remember to put it back in. from a user's experience, is this necessary? has yours fallen out during sex/has your SO felt it?

I never took my ring out during sex. It really doesnt fall out, for me anyways. My boyfriend never said he noticed it.

2. I've never taken mine out during sex.
Mine has never fallen out.
My boyfriend feels it but he says it feels great.

I take mine out during sex. It's just easier for me. It doesn't bother my SO but sometimes bothers me when it gets at weird angle.

The ring made me break out at first, but it's totally normal now.

My hubby would sometimes "win ringtoss" during sex but we didn't feel it. Once it came out and we didn't know it was in the sheets so I'd check after sex but other than that it was completely cake to use.

i take mine out during sex. i have a narrow vag and my SO is large in girth so he says it hurts and truth be told it hurts me sometimes too so i just find it easier. i think it just depends on you and your so's body and comfort.

I never take mine out. The boy says he can feel it, but he's never complained. It has on occasion pinched me, but thats usually only when there are large or multiple objects being inserted, and it gets caught in between.

My partner has a piercing, and it would get caught on the stupid ring all the time. Pinching him. Pinching me. Pulling it out. Blah! We could not have sex with it in. But I blame it all on the metal.

I have no experience with complexion issues.
I never have taken the ring out during... never knew it was an option. I've never had a problem with it falling out. My boyfriend would occasionally have issues with it rubbing. Most of the time it would be when I was on top for too long. For the most part it is resolved, I think he's learned what to be aware of and move me accordingly. :)
I've honestly love being on the ring. It's been wonderful. I have no complaints other than the bf soreness. I seem to remember a posting about birth control likes and dislikes a few weeks ago. Lots of interesting posts, I learned a lot. Wish I could remember what it was called but i'm running to bed.

1) I was never on HBC before and have always had nice skin. The nuva ring made my complexion a little worse for a while and after about 2 months or so it went back to normal.

2) I would just try to leave it in during sex. Until I got really adept at putting it in*, it would usually slide out until I had sex and then sex would usually push it into place and it would stay there. When we first started using the ring my partner said he could feel it occasionally, but it wasn't distracting or anything. I experimented with a few different placements and where I put it now he says he basically can't feel it at all.

*When I insert the ring I bear down and place it behind my cervix and push it up as far as I can. Then, when I release my muscles it kind of sucks the ring up further so it stays nice and high behind my cervix.

Ok, this is going to sound really ignorant (it's because I am), how do you know if you're placing it behind your cervix? I have never been on BC, but I was considering talking about this one to my gyn, but I have no idea how to put anything behind my cervix?

oh that's not ignorance, just curiosity. you don't have to put it behind your cervix, as long as it's in your vajay then it works.

me and my fiance don't take it out during sex either. he feels it sometimes but it's never distracting or anything. it's never popped out on us either, although I'm kind of paranoid about that so I'm always checking after sex.

I haven't noticed a great deal of change in my complexion and I came from using yaz to using the ring, so it's similar. maybe a few more breakouts, but really nothing major.

honestly the ring is the best thing that's ever happened to me. I didn't realize how annoying it was to take a pill everyday until I didn't have to anymore! it's so convenient, I love it.

1) My skin got bad for a month or 2 but than it cleared up and I only have the stubborn chin breakout or 2.
2) My SO feels it but he says it feels great and asks me to keep it in, a few times after sex it has ended up around his penis! haha
