I'm new and just thought I'd say hi. I guess I do have a little question; has anyone here ever used Instead, those cups you insert that catch your menstrual fluids? The package says you can wear it for up to nine hours, but I'm thinking infection for sure. I tried them once. They are comfortable, but messy to pull out. I think I'm just going to stick with my OB non-applicators for now.

I love them. I have slothful tendencies and occasionally leave them in way too long, and I haven't had any problems (but I'm not particularly prone to yeast infections or anything). They do take some getting used to.

I like'em too. I have a friend though who only wears them when shes beginning or ending her period, because she says it gets to messy...I've never had a problem with infection or anything...If your interested, there are lots of folks around here that are using the "keeper" a kind of reusable "instead"....It sounds really cool. I think lots of the "infection" talk that goes on about period stuff was developed by parinoid men who think that periods are gross.....lots of woman seem to be going back to traditional methods like sea sponges and stuff like that....I think our viginas clean themselves a lot better than we have been told.

I agree...

Doesn't the vagina totally clean itself out every 6 hours? I don't remember exactly what happens, but I know it finds a way. ;)

The Keeper

I use The Keeper menstrual cup.. you can leave that in up to 12 hours (depending on your flow-on my 2nd and 3rd days my flow is quite heavy so I have to empty it every 7 hours... but on all of the other days I can leave it for the entire 12 hours) and it's reusable. You just empty it, rinse it out, reinsert it. When your cycle is over you wash it in warm, soapy water and store it in its cute little drawstring bag. The brochure says it'll last 10 years before needing to be replaced.

It doesn't leak, I don't even have to wear panty liners with it... and no more stains in my panties from accidents when I was unable to get to a bathroom in time to change my tampon, or when my panty liner got shifted out of place.

I love it... here's the link.

My experience with them has been that it's easy to get a handful of blood'n'stuff when you're still learning how to remove it. I decided I prefer the Keeper because I'd rather just get my hands messy and wash it off than have a bloody mess in my trashcan.

I bought a small box and liked them, then I bought the big box and suddenly they were leaking constantly. Maybe I am just not getting it in right? I went back to pads/tampons and then got pg again and haven't neded them since. Maybe I'll try again when I get my cycle back.
