Hey, VPers!

I'm looking to get some lube. It's pretty much going to have to be water-based, because silicone-based would mess with my NuvaRing, and oil-based reduces the effectiveness of condoms, which we also use. My questions are as follows:

1) Is it possible to get a travel-sized or otherwise small packet or bottle of lube? I live with my family and have sex very infrequently, so I don't really want (or need) huge bottles of lube hanging around my room.

2) Can any good water-based lubes (hopefully in small quantities) be bought at a typical drugstore or grocery store? I glanced at the ones in my local Safeway the other day, but it seemed to be mostly oil-based stuff. If not, where might be a good place to get some?

Thanks for your input!

I know very little about lube, so I can't help your #2 question (though I'm fairly certain my Safeway sells water-based and organic hemp lubes), but your #1 is a definite yes.

Many lube manufacturers sell "pillow packs," which are little single-use plastic packages of lubricant. In my area, every single adult store (porn stores, sex toy stores) keeps them in a few jars in the store.

My boy and I use Durex Play More Lubricant and it's water-based and the container isn't very big (easily concealed amongst my underwear). I swear by the stuff, haha.

Right, I was going to mention that too haha (my brain is short circuiting because of too much school). You can buy it at pretty much any grocery store or drug store =] I'm in Canada, so I tend to buy it at Superstore because I'm a broke university student, haha.

I'm not sure where you live but if you have a Lover's Package, or some other type of erotic-type boutique, you can get little sample packages of different kinds of lube, and I'm pretty certain some of them are water-based!

Er...I see you replied to another poster about being too young to get into a place like that. I guess just look at walmart - but I don't think they often carry anything smaller than a bottle's worth.

In my experience, most drug stores or grocery stores have small containers of lubricant that is easy to hide in a sock or underwear drawer, conceal in a pocket of a jacket hanging in a closet, etc. I have some Astroglide I bought at Fred Meyers, and it's big enough to give me plenty of use, but small enough that it's easily hideable. I'd say it's no more than two inches tall.

When I was at my local Target, I saw that they had small, medium, and large bottles of KY lube-- and travel sized ones! Plus they had so many kinds (aside from just ky brands)

I don't know if KY is oil or water based though.. :(

My lube of choice is ID. But be sure to read the label, because some of theirs are water based and some of them are silicon based. You can get them at your local naughty store. I'm not quite sure how much they run you... the gay bar in my town is sponsored by ID, and they give the shit out on holidays and stuff, lol

1) Yes. I purchase 2.5 oz bottles, which is generous enough to last awhile, but small enough to be discrete or easily concealed.

2) My favorite is Astroglide's Glycerin & Paraben Free lube, which you can get at CVS (I haven't found it at regular grocery stores). Everything else I've tried has given me symptoms of a yeast infection, but I've had no problem with this stuff. The only problem is that it gets quite sticky after drying, but that's an issue with most water-based lubes.

Your NuvaRing is NOT made out of silicone. I silicone based lubricant will not 'mess' with it. I've actually called Organon and they confirmed that it's a medical grade plastic, not silicone.

I've picked up travel-sized bottles of KY Warming at Wal-Mart. Try looking with the travel-sized shampoos and stuff.

If your concern is hiding the lube, why not pick up travel bottles and put the lube in that? That'd be very discrete.
I never really shop for lube, but I can't imagine any stores not selling water-based. Just take a closer look.

Are you near a university with a sex ed program or a planned parentood? They probably have the pillow packs of lube too. (I know my sex ed group does, all you have to do is ask for them. :) )
