I should've asked here first, but is excessive discharge a sign that you could be pregnant?

I got off my period on the 18th, sorta had sex that following Monday -- the21st and am in the midst of a pregnancy scare. I wasn't going to worry about it until two weeks before my pd, but I decided to look it up (the discharge question). I read on Yahoo where it basically means you're pregnant.

The past two weeks (but especially this week) I've been noticing a heavy amount of discharge, an amount that I don't normally get about a week before my period. This is discharge that I can *feel* expelling out (almost like feeling blood expel) and I check my panties and it's stained white sometimes or huge dry streaks of white. O_O

I thought discharge was a GOOD SIGN (of your period coming)? Am I grossly misinformed?

Where a lot of discharge could mean pregnancy, i wouldn't worry about it until you have missed your period. a lot of women, including myself, have more discharge during ovulation.

most women ovulate two weeks after menstration(but we are all different), so i would say you are ovulating now. if you had sex on the 21 and you just got off your period on the 18th, i would say your chances are very slim, and it would sound like you are ovulating now.
have you ever heard of mymonthlycycle.com ??? it keeps track of all those things.

In an average cycle, menstruation is 2 weeks before menstruation, not 2 weeks after menstruation. An egg not implanting, or implanting and not being viable is what triggers shedding of the uterine lining.

If your period ended the 18th, and today is the 29th, you're about 11 days into your cycle.

Just to correct that, a woman's cycle is counted with the first day of bleeding being cycle day one. So the OP is actually probably 15-16 days into her cycle now. :)

Also, check webmd.com if you're going to go anywhere to look up information. I always find way too much information if i yahoo search or google a question that is medical related.

It's very possible that you are ovulating. I always have what you describe when I ovulate.

I wouldn't let it stress you out (I know, easier said than done. lol). If your period doesn't show up when it's supposed to THEN take a pregnancy test.

There's a good chance you could be ovulating right now. But if you had sex so soon after your period, your chances of being pregnant are very slim. Calm down, sweetie! :)

Sometimes I just randomly have more discharge than usual at ovulation. I wouldn't worry unless you miss a period.
Just remember to try to relax :) Stressing out can delay a period.

I think the best advice I've learned from both personal experience and reading VP is, never trust search engine results when it comes to worrying about a pregnancy. :)

Almost anything and everything can be a sign of pregnancy -- and most of it can be a totally normal non-pregnant thing as well. Discharge, for instance. It's totally normal to have a lot of discharge (so long as it appears healthy and there isn't any foul odour, itching or pain, which may indicate an infection), especially at various times in your cycle and various times in your life.

I agree with others that you may be ovulating now. I'm assuming your period was about 4-5 days long, which means that this is Cycle Day 15 for you. Since women tend to ovulate about 14 days before a period, this would be a very average time to start seeing the famous egg-white cervical mucous that signals ovulation. And the white discharge you describe is exactly what I get during my ovulation -- I can definitely feel my ovulatory discharge spewing out, heh.

I just wanted to say that I'm currently 38 weeks pregnant and I didn't notice a change in discharge until the second trimester and even then it wasn't A LOT. Now that I'm farther along it's an excessive amount but during the first 2 trimesters everything pretty much stayed normal for me. Of course, it's not the same for everyone but from what you described in your entry (the dates and such) it doesn't sound like you're pregnant. I agree with everyone else and think it's most likely ovulation.

Also, vaginas have a tendency to change how they do things so to speak so don't consider increased discharge a sign of pregnancy. In my personal opinion, the only thing I consider to be a pregnancy scare to really worry about is when a period is late and you've had unprotected sex.
