...Ok, so maybe i should have started this research a LITTLE earlier...
Tomorrow is my first visit to the gyn (trying not to be nervous) and I'm going to be getting a birth control consultation (and hopefully a prescription).
I've had my eye on the nuvaring and femconfe for a while (yeah, i'd really like implanon but i'm pretty sure that's not available here yet)- you'll notice these are all chewable/non-oral options. So while i was looking at femconfe.com, i came across this:
"Appropriate for all body types - According to one study, for women who weigh 155 lbs or more (163 lbs is the average US woman's weight), using a pill with 35 mcg of estrogen, like Femcon Fe, may minimize the risk of pill failure compared with lower dose pills"
What's that mean for 130lb "lightweights" like me? it just confuses me a little bit.
anyone have experiences with my 2 choices, want to tell me stories, etc?

Date: 2007-10-17 02:44 am (UTC)What it's explaining (though this particular guideline is new to me) is that women over 155 lbs. may possibly experience a greater likelihood of pill failure on low-dose pills, so Femcon FE's higher estrogen content means women over 155 lbs. will be able to expect the same rate of protection as women who weigh less than 155.
As far as experiences between NuvaRing and Femcon FE -- at least as far as side effects go, we usually encourage members not to put too much stock into personal experiences with any brand of hormonal birth control.
Since every brand affects every woman differently, "reviews" of HBC will offer no insight or predictions into how it will affect anyone else.
Really, the best thing to do is to choose which method you think is best for you... taking a pill every day, or inserting a ring every month... and give it a shot for at least three months to see how it works for you.
Good luck!
