Hi there! As you're all aware, we mods occasionally get emails from members asking us to post anonymously on their behalf. This is one such post. Thanks for helping her!

Question:
I have two bumps on my vulva. One is the size of a large pea and is in the crevice between my labia minora and labia majora. The other is about half the size of the first and is *in* my labia minora. They are both firm, regular skin color and painful/itchy. I have circled in white the two areas in the picture which represent where the bumps are. I have never tested positive for HPV, herpes or any other STI. I am ruling out Bartholin's gland cyst because it is on the oposite side of my labia minora. I am also ruling out ingrown hair, since these areas are well below the hair line.
If anyone has and ideas of what they might be or suggestions on how to make them go away please let me know. Thank you for your help.

This member has included an image describing the area she is concerned about. I have placed this photo under the cut.

I read the archives and google the hell out of the subject. I know what it is and why it is there, basically. Pea-sized tender cyst on the rightside of my inner labia. So inner it is almost in my vagina. That's how on my vulva it is. It hurts and I hate it. I am seeing my guy on Friday, and I would like to, you know. Well, I can't get a hot compress on the thing, I can't lance it, and it hurts too much to try to pop. Which, that can cause an infection anyway. So, any ideas on how to make it disappear faster or get some relief?

Oh! And I just started new birth control yesterday (levlen 28) as well new asthma meds (albuterol and qvar) as well as upped my dose of metformin for my PCOS. I also started my period yesterday. Just making sure I get all the info in there. As for stress my guy and I broke up 2/3 and went on a break instead of breaking up 2/5, and the last time we had sex was 2/6. We've been together for a year and four months and have been extremely monogamous. Also! He's a clean blood donor so he is tested often, and I was recently tested (December). So I definitely know it is a cyst and not herpes (I've never even had a cold sore, though I have had chicken pox).

Edit:
To add to stress I am also a full time college student and I work full time.

As for herpes, I've been tested through blood for it. My guy has also, since he is a nursing student and a blood donor who donates very often (he's O-).

omfg, wtf?

Hi everybody!

Quick question:

I'm a virgin and I've never even kissed someone before. However- I recently developed this pimple-like bump on my 'outer-lip' and when I pop it, pus and blood comes out. One's appeared a few months ago and I discovered another one today.

It can't be an ingrown hair because I don't shave, right?

This is really worrying me, I'm wondering if I got something from sharing a soda with someone a while back. Please help.

I just joined the group, but it appears that quite a few of the questions here are related to genital skin issues (such as itching and the appearance of tiny tears).

I thought that it might be good to offer up a few references for folks:

Genital Skin Problems - This is a very good quick reference guide to potential causes of discomfort. It also offers some idea of treatment for each. This is a medical site that supplies pictures for some of these issues, so don't be shocked to see images of genitals.

Vulval conditions - This is a much less indepth guide meant for the layman. There are some helpful tips offered up, and it may give you an idea of what issues are probable.

International Society for the Study of Vulvoginal Disease - I particularly recommend the sections labeled Patient Education and Links to related sites. This site goes over what is "normal" in terms of appearance and discharge, and also discusses how to cleanse your genitals without irritating them.

I think that between all these links, you will find almost every condition addressed. The thing is, no matter what you *think* you are dealing with you should most likely consult your general physician (or even better...a dermatologist) and make sure that you are right before treating it. Treatments for one condition may irritate another, and some conditions may look like they have disappeared but they have only entered another stage where they are dormant or manifesting in another form. Be sure you know what you are dealing with. Physicians have seen it all, so there is no reason to be embarrassed.

Some general guidelines for maintaining genital health:

Limit (or eliminate) the use of scented/dyed/chemical products that will make contact with your genitals. Scented toilet paper, laundry soaps, residue from your shampoo/conditioner, chlorinated water, bubble bath, shower soaps, scented feminine hygiene products and such are frequently irritating.

Don't wash your genitals with soap, or use a very mild and moisturizing type

Don't douche, deodorize, or use talc

Shower instead of bathe

Wear underwear that has a cotton crotch, and don't wear anything that is too tight

If irritation arises from "dryness", use products such as KY to keep your vagina moist and comfortable

Wipe from front to back, so that you do not transfer bacteria to your vagina or urethra from your anus.
(For the same reason, do not have anal sex followed by vaginal sex without changing the condom or cleaning off the toy/penis/whatever well. You may want to keep some toys as exclusively anal toys, unless you plan on boiling them to clean them.)

Pat the vulva dry with a clean towel when you get out of the shower/bath rather than rubbing vigorously.

If you seem to experience burning upon contact with your urine (and this is due to sensitivity rather than an infection), try drinking more water every day and lightly rinsing your vulva with lukewarm pure water after you urinate

I hope this helps those of you with questions.

Please be sure not to try to treat these things yourself though. You really should go into your doctor to get a clear diagnosis. No amount of well meaning peer support and information exchange can replace professional testing.

Hi!
I have a question, obviously.
When I got out of the shower today and was drying down below, I felt an ouch. I looked, and there was a pimple looking thing, right on the labia. Anyone else ever have that? Is it normal? I popped it and it popped just like a pimple.
I've never had this before.
Thanks!

So the other night my hands were roaming in my pubic region when I noticed something out of sorts. I could feel something on my outer labia. At first I thought it was a cut along the edge of the lip, but after a closer examination I realized it was more of a skin tag. I'm pretty familiar with my body and I know this is the first time I have noticed this. It doesn't hurt and I abstain from sex so I am fairly certain it is not sexually transmitted. Does this sound like something I should worry about? Thanks in advance.
