soooooo, here it is.

my boyfriend and i are long distance. with the situation as it is, i have been on birth control for about two months because of his recent visit, but i stopped it when he left because i have no insurance and that stuff is getting pretty expensive.

anyway, my question is this: is it normal for your period to take a little longer arriving after you've just stopped the pill? with the pill, it was exactly 28 days, obviously, but it's been 33 and it makes me worry.

any advice you ladies could give me would help ease my mind.

thanks so much!

It's normal to not get it for awhile, and similarly, it's normal to bleed like someone needs to come part the Red Sea. (Which unfortunately has always been my body's reaction to going off HBC, which despite it always happening, still always alarms me, ha)

If you are really concerned about things, grab a cheap pregnancy test to eliminate it as a possibility, but honestly, your body is probably just a bit out of whack from the lack of hormones running the system.

It is completely normal for your first cycle off the pill to be a little longer, don't worry too much :)

If you are worried you could always do a test just for peace of mind, but honestly I wouldn't worry at all.

Last time I went off the pill it was six weeks before a period, but the following month I was back to normal :)

Everyone is different of course but that is how I found it :)

I am actually 7 days off finishing the pill for good myself so I'm expecting a bit of wierdness in my cycle next month too!

for a time when I didn't have a boyfriend for 4 months I went off the pill because I didn't have the "boyfriend" as a constant reminder to take my pill. After I stopped taking the pill...I didn't have my period for 3 months. I wouldn't be worried.

It is normal to have wonky cycles going off the pill, so pregnancy isn't a worry if you've been taking your pills properly (one every day at the same time).

As we mention here, (http://www.vaginapagina.com/index.php?title=Hormonal_Birth_Control#What_effects_can_I_experience_as_my_body_adjusts_to_being_off_HBC.3F) it's very common to experience what's called post-pill amenorrhea after stopping HBC.

I personally didn't have a period for almost 12 weeks after the first time I stopped taking it, which is a bit on the long side but nonetheless normal; the Mayo Clinic doesn't recommend consulting a health care professional until your period has been absent for six months. So you're almost certainly quite fine. :)
