Birth Control and Razor Burn

I have two separate questions:
1) I get really bad razor burn every time I shave my bikini zone is there anyway I can prevent/treat this.  I've tried nairing, and it didn't work, and waxing hurts too much, so those are out of the question.

2) I've been thinking about going on birth control for various reasons, and I was just wondering what I should know about it, where I should go to get it, and what questions I should be asking my doctor about it.
