Have any of you ladies ever called out sick to work on account of a yeast infection? If so, did you use the real reason or did you lie to your boss? Was he/she sympathetic?

Or, if not, how do you deal with the symptoms at work?

Nope, but only because anytime I've gotten one I get some monistat and the cream that goes with it and I feel fine. I recently took a day off for a kidney stone and they were sympathetic for that one!

I would hope that they would be sympathetic.

I usually work through it with plenty of Canesten! I had it so badly once though that I had to take a day off - put cystitis on my sick form!

I can't say that I have, but in general I refrain from giving details when using a sick day - I consider the reason none of their business. I call in and say "I'm not feeling well and won't be in the office today" and leave it at that.

Same here.

I think all they would need to know is you are ill, and that is that.

Ditto. All they need to know is that you aren't feeling well and won't be in. It shouldn't matter if it's a YI or the flu.

No, but I hardly ever call out to work, period.

No I haven't, but you aren't legally obliged to say what was wrong with you anyway. You just have to say you are unwell and that is it.

I'm pretty sure I took off work before for a yeast infection. And I think I might have told them flat out what it was. Cause I nanny, and I could easily tell the mom that without any worry. But if you feel too worried about it, get a doctor's note, or tell them it's a rather personal illness. Don't lie about it, bosses as I've seen, prefer to have lack of info rather that misinfo. Tell them you're ill, but you'd rather not discuss with what because it's a very personal nature, and if they seem persistent, bring up womanly things. But I wouldn't worry about telling them specifically unless you're comfortable with it.

I usually just bring some anti-itch cream and toddle off to the toilet as needed. The one time I did call in, I just said I had an infection and left it that. I work for the government and we don't have to tell them why as long as we have the leave to cover it. If I would've had to say why, I would have lied.

I've never had a YI, but I have worked with a really bad UTI and that was not a fun day. I think if something similar were to happen again, I'd probably call out though I almost never do.

Christ...I never tell them what's wrong...it's none of their business....but we don't have to fill out forms. I just call in.

No, never have. Before I discovered Monistat, I suffered through it. Yes. It was Hell.

I've never called into work because of one, but I've left early because of it.

I just told my boss that I wasn't feel very good, and that I think I needed to hit the doctor's office, so I needed to leave.

My boss was cool about it, and even called to check in on me the next day (on one of my days off). He never really questions why I need time off, and doesn't make me bring in a doc's note, even though according to the handbook, we're supposed to (I work at my university's food service program).

If you aren't feeling well enough to work, and you're comfortable telling your boss what's going on, then do so. If not, just tell them you need the day off.
