Period sex can be fun. I don't think theres any way to stop your period, so why not enjoy sex anyways?

Ugh, I totally get the oral thing. My boy and I were long distance while I was at school, and for a good three months the only times we were together I had my period. :(

What about investing in some dental dams or saran wrap, if the blood is an issue for you or your partner? Is it something either of you would consider?

period sex is fun.

but do it on a towel or in the bathtub/shower otherwise it's super messy.

What about using an Instead cup?

you can get them at cvs :)

Insteads are available at CVS. They're the only cup than can be worn for sex with penetration. They are also disposable. Other menstrual cups (Diva, Keeper, etc) are usually only available online (though some health food stores carry them) and can't be worn during sex with penetration.

What makes Instead cups different from Diva/Moon/Keeper/etc. that makes them able to be worn during penetrative sex?

they sit behind the pubic bone, (as far as i know the diva doesn't) so they're able to just 'move' when the penis goes in.

haha.

i use them for period sex... best idea ever.

But.... where do they move TO? Lol does the penis just push it farther back in the vagina? If it's relatively full of menstrual blood, can't it... make some of it gush out? (And isn't that a gross mental image? >.<) lol

Ideally you put one in right before sex, so there isn't much in there.

to my understanding, is that the cup part of the instead will move up, and when inserted correctly, the cup itself wouldn't move, just the film part (i totally cant think of the correct terminology... so here's the mental image i try to assert. think of it as a really shallow large condom. there's the base, and then the part that acts like the cup. when the instead cup is inserted correctly, and put behind the pubic bone, when a penis is inserted and thrusting, the base will stay put, but the cup might move upwards, and in the female terms, itmight move the blood back upwards, but there will be no place for it to go but back into the cup.

normally you'd want to take out the cup before you have sex and put a new one (or as some might, wash it and re-insert) to prevent any blood...

that said, ive had sex, on my heaviest day, and had my instead cup in for a few hours (at a bar) and then had sex late that night (no time to empty it) and ive never leaked from it.

and that was long and probably rambly. woooh

there is room around the cervix, at the base. imagine the instead cup sitting like a little mushroom cap on the tip of the cervix. all under the mushroom cap and down near the dirt where the mushroom grows is room for the blood to chill out.

Insteads sit much higher in the vagina, near the cervix. They are essentially a plastic ring with a little baggie attached to it to collect the blood. Menstrual cups like the Diva are made out of medical grade silicon or rubber.

Wikipedia's entry on menstrual cups has great little illustrations showing the difference between "open bell shaped cups" (reusable cups) and "diaphragm style cups" (Insteads). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menstrual_cups

i learned that putting it in and positioning it downwards til you get to your pubic bone, then slightly upwards to get it right works for me. (at least my) pubic bone isn't as far back into my vag as i thought it was, and so inserting the instead cup i dont push it really really far back... i wuold try to get it as far back as you can, and if you can feel your pubic bone, you should be ok.

i told my boyf that i was wearing one, only because he was about to finger me. but during sex he didnt really notice at all.. andif you're going to get oral, i doubt he'll know at all.

yep from the inside. so if you were to insert your finger into yr vagina... there will be a little crook thats might be fleshy at the beginning, and then there would be a slight hook thats hard and ridgy, which would be the pubic bone. the instead should sit right behind that bone.

This video (http://softcup.com/product/video.php) from the Instead website might help you out. I found it easier to follow than the written instructions and diagrams. :)

I haven't had any luck with Insteads myself, so I don't know how to help. But try posting in the menstrual_cups community, as some girls there use them successfully.

I get them at Target, yea. I've never looked for them at CVS.

If you're not comfortable with period sex, try masturbating a whole bunch tonight. It always helps my period to come and go faster.

Also, I've always found that period sex has actually lightened my period a whole bunch to the point where it's almost over!

sometimes sexual activity or being around my boy will make my period stop until i get away from him. very efficient, it reminds me to go back into the moon hut. :)
