Hi all, 2 things:

Firstly, I currently have the yeast infection from HELL! I have gotten 3 or 4 YIs in the past, so without a doctor's diagnosis I know when I have one. I recently became sexually active again 2 weeks ago, and started Yaz last weekend. I'm blaming the Yaz... day two on it and BAM! Yeast infection! So Tuesday I took Diflucan (which I had leftover from my doctor previously prescribing me an extra). Now it's Saturday and I still have no relief... in facat, it might even be getting slightly worse. The weird thing is I don't really have any discharge... just smelly, itchy as hell (not my vulva, but inner labia a nd vagina), and they are alarmingly bright red. Should I go for an OTC remedy, or wait until Monday and get a second prescription for Diflucan? I'm really dying trying to resist the urge to scratch my vag at work =[

Secondly, my throat is so sore. When I press on the sides of my neck where my glands are, it is very sore to touch. However I have no discolored mucus and I can't feel the usual "bumps" I feel when my glands are up. Is there any chance this soreness could be attributed to deep throating my partner? I tend to do it quite a bit. Could I have irritated my throat?

Thanks!

When in doubt, go to the doctor. At the very least, you'll need another prescription for Diflucan. But it may be something more serious, like an infection or BV or something.

i'm experiencing the exact same sore throat you descibed.
it started sunday. it's still a little sore, but nothing close to what if was before.

i'd say give it a few days and see how ya feel. in the meantime, don't deepthroat?
i know i tried last night and it hurt like the dickens.

I had something kind of like what you're describing once and tried the regular OTC YI treatment, and that it made it soooo much worse. I hurried to the dr and it turned out to be a different type of infection all together. I think it was because of sex, but they didn't specifically say STD/STI so i'm not sure. they gave me some antibiotics and a cream for soothing and it was gone really fast. It was so uncomfortable i went to the urgent care clinic. That's probably what i would do if I were you.
I think it's possible you've irritated your throat with the deepthroating, but i wonder if you have been using condoms or are 100% sure you and your partner are STI-free? If it was just one thing or the other, i wouldn't ask, but with both your vagina and your throat troubling you, you may want to get tested.
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

You should probably get another prescription. It took a week's worth of Diflucan to clear up my last YI.

If you've had unprotected sex and then gave your partner oral sex, there's a chance you could have passed the yeast infection into your throat. I've had both a vaginal yeast infection and oral thrush (same thing, but in my throat) at the same time. Check out your throat... if there are white bumps surrounded by red inflamed tissue, it's probably thrush. Diflucan will take care of this as well. But you're going to need more than just one pill to clear it up.

Difulcan and the like never worked for me. I always use garlic. Just open a close, cut it or puncture it, and either wrap it in cheesecloth, or not, depending on your sensitivity, and just stick it up there every night before you go to bed. Swallowing spoonfuls of fresh garlic is very helpful as well.

It sounds like you're right on about the sore throat thing.

Given that the timing is right (~2 weeks), you have a new partner, and you're also having flu-like symptoms, I can't encourage you enough to be evaluated for herpes. The symptoms are often very similar to yeast, and it's much better/easier/less painful to get it evaluated and treated while you have a breakout than to wait for it to clear or mistreat it by using the wrong over-the-counter med. Feel better!

The antibody test is done via blood draw, and can show whether you've been exposed to HSV. A culture is done on a sore, cut, lesion, or area of broken skin, only when one of those is present.
