What were YOU doing when the condom broke?

Were things kinda dry?  Was it in some crazy position?  Was it at the end of a 45 minute romp in the hay?

I'm just curious b/c I've never had a condom break & I've never even felt like it could break.  But now I'm basically using condoms only for birth control, so it would be nice to hear if there were any common problems that cause breakage....

No idea how it happened, but we didn't notice at all until he pulled out after we had both finished. I went to get EC later that day. We had no problems.

I was getting rogered from behind over a desk. Also, it was a non-latex condom. The other time was while I was getting rogered from behind over a piano. Non-latex condoms were in force there, too.

My advice is not to use non-latex condoms when getting rogered from behind voer anything.

Yeah, my only breakage experience in many, many years of a hella lotta sex was when I was getting it from behind over the edge of a bed last year. Also using a non-latex condom. And he's on the larger side, penis-size-wise. We'd been going at it for quite a while too, so I think friction, and the above factors, simply took their toll. That poor condom didn't stand a chance. ;)

It's true, though, isn't it. Rogering form behind + non-latex condom (I was using Durex Avanti) = broken condoms. I've also noticed that the factor "Wide cock" acts as a catalyst in the "Broken condom" reaction!

Also, non-latex condom + girl on top = condom escaping and getting lodged inside girl. It was hilarious. Fantastic things, these non-latex condoms. If I had any other option, I'd go for it, but alas! I am allergic to latex.

Avanti here too. And yeah, those wide pipes definitely make the pipe-laying a bit more, um, adventurous, as far as condom useage goes. ;)

I've had the escaping issue as well with them. I make a practice of reaching down/back/under and checking regularly to make sure the silly things are still ON when frolicking. This time, I didn't even know the damn thing had broken because everything still felt kosher at the base --- it had totally broken at the TIP and was only discovered after the fact. A bit of crying over 'spilled milk' that time due to having to relay the incident to our respective primary partners. oops.

I'm allergic to latex too, so my only options are of the non-latex variety... the Avantis, the Trojan Supras, or the female condoms (which I haven't tried yet, but I think I might soon for other reasons).

I assume that's polyurethane for non-latex? The lambskin ones... 10 years, no breaks. (Also no slip-outs that didn't leave the end of the condom outside and grabbable before any of the wrigglers made a break for it.)

Of course, the lambskin ones aren't suitable for disease-prevention.

And we weren't using them in combination with desks or pianos.

Trojan Naturalamb is the brand, I believe, but they don't advertise them on their site! (This makes me twitchy.) Yes, I believe they are actually made of lamb intestines, just like the olden times. Only without being tied with ribbons. (Being made of lamb/sheep may be why they're not on the site right now...) They probably don't have as much stretch as other kinds, but they're very tough.

I was having him on top sex and it just happned. It was a durex condom, the one and only time I've used that brand. Sometimes people say it happens because the condom was put on wrong (air being trapped in the end), or not enough lube, or an expired condom or a condom that was stored incorrectly.

There is always a risk. So you might want to talk to your doctor about the Morning After Pill. or getting on the pill. It definately puts my mind more at ease these days.

Thanks - yeah I just went OFF the ring, I don't want to use hormonal birth control anymore. We are using FAM + condoms for right now, but I was just curious. I have easy access to EC & will use that if we have a break though.

We've never had a condom break. One time, it slipped off and it was still inside me when he pulled out, but it was because he came twice in the same condom. I was on HBC so it wasn't a problem, but we knew exactly what caused it so we avoided it in the future.

The only time I've had a condom break was definitely the result of too little lube combined with too much cock. Oh, was I ever sore the next day, and freaked out! The brand was some kind of Trojan.

I've also had the comdom slip off, which was the result of too much lube and too little cock, combined with rather vigorous sexing. Both of these times my partner was on top in missionary, but I don't think that factored into it.

I had a condom slip off once, I think it was in legs-over-shoulders missionary which caused my vagina to clamp down and pretty much pull it off. The ten minutes we spent trying to fish it out was kinda fun. Or not really at all. :P

I've also had 2 break on me when I was dating a different boy. However, he had a genital piercing and we always had rather rough sex, so sometimes it would snag. But we were both tested and I'm on HBC so it was no big deal, just meant we had more cleanup to do.

I've never actually had one break that I can remember but from the sounds of things I'm definately going to avoid non-latex condoms for anything from behind for the next couple of weeks.

Everything was as usual -- plenty of lube, usual position, etc. Another condom from the same batch broke the next day, so I think it's safe to say that it was a bad shipment. (In retrospect, I should have sent the rest of the package back to Durex instead of just throwing it out.)

Me too! Except I've had condoms break twice again since, once soon after my de-virginising (so I still had no idea what the heck was going on), and once when I took my current boy's virginity. My first boyfriend used to break them on purpose and tell me it was bad condoms, because he didn't like condoms. I was so naive about sex back then...but anyway, I've never really had to worry about accidently getting knocked up, but for years i was terrified of bad condoms and not being protected against std's. The first time it happened, we were using a latex condom with spermicide. During sex, my vagina became swollen, irritated, and dry, and -- bam! -- condom broken. We concluded that the spermicide had irritated me.

The second time, we were using a latex lubricated condom without spermicide. Once again, during sex, my vagina got irritated, dry, and swollen. Broken condom. We concluded that maybe it wasn't the spermicide after all but rather, that I was allergic to latex.

Dryness was never a problem before and hasn't been since. And in both of these cases, things dried up pretty suddenly, so it was like as he was pulling out to get more lube -- breakage.

The third time, smart us, we'd switched to polyurethane condoms. Yay, us. And while we realized that poly condoms are not so stretchy as latex condoms, we apparently failed to realize how truly unstretchy they are. Boo, us.

So there was one time -- where the sex was not rough, my vagina was not irritated, and everything was all lubed up and slippery and fun -- where we were moving from missionary to me on top. The condom did not like that and decided to respond by breaking. (Fortunately, his penis had slipped out during that transition, so we could see exactly when it happened.)

And another where I went from traditional woman on top to reverse cowgirl. Sometime in one of those positions or in the transition itself, more breakage. (Since the thrusting wasn't particularly vigorous, I'm inclined to think it happened during the position change, but I can't be sure of that.)

Both of those condoms were from the same 3-pack, so it's possible it was a bad shipment. The condoms were stored in appropriate conditions after we bought them, but obviously, I can't account for what happened before we purchased them.

Aaannd from a different pack of poly condoms, one split down the side as my partner was withdrawing from me and after he'd already ejaculated. Lovely.

So all in all, I've concluded:

1) We were very fortunate that we were never relying on condoms as a "first line of defense" against either pregnancy or STIs.
2) Though there are plenty of people who successfully use condoms as a sole contraceptive method for years with zero problems, I am apparently not one of them, unless;
3) Correct condom use actually also requires me to sacrifice a goat to the Gods of Penis Coverings, and I just missed this memo.**

** There is nothing about goat sacrifices (or any other livestock sacrifices, for that matter) on the instructions in the boxes. I have checked. ;)

We had a condom break once... we were kind of in a funky position and it was after one or two thrusts. Things weren't any drier than they had been, but perhaps a tiny bit? The condom used was pre-lubricated, though.

i'm not so sure what made to condoms break ( yes multiple ones) but that was a big problem when my husband and i started having sex. but after a while we just stopped using them because they broke all the time. ( in fact thats how i got pregnant) but after a while we switched brands ( from Trojan to kimonos) and we've had no problems at all.

I've only had a condom break once or twice (which is pretty rare considering I've had lots of sex over the years). Honestly, I think it was the brand I used. I can't remember it now, but it was one of the free kinds given out at GLBT festivals or health centers (can't remember the details of where I got it now.) I now only use polyurethane condoms, and I've never had one of those break.

I kind of wonder if it has something to do with individual bodies or what, because I feel very confident relying on condoms, while other people swear they use them correctly and still have them break all the time.
