Hi guys,

I know this is a weird question, but both last month and this month, I've gotten the "creepy crawlies" all over my skin in the weeks between ovulation and menstruation. It's a totally strange feeling, and I've never really dealt with this before. Just wondering if any of you have had that same feeling before related to your cycle? It's not exactly itchiness, but rather the feeling that there are bugs crawling on my skin (and no, I'm not a drug user -- this is apparently a side effect that meth users deal with). I read that a lot of perimenopausal women go through this, but I'm only 26, so I don't think perimenopause is my problem.

Can anyone relate?

Thanks!

i have NO idea. this is one of my first times having a regular period (side effect of some medication i'm on) and it's kicking my ass! i'm sad all the time, i'm crying over stuff that's so unlikely it's practically impossible, and i just ate chocolate. WTF is this shit?

Um, OT, but wow, that Stephen Dunn poem on your journal is awesome.

I have the same problem, it does feel like bugs are crawling under your skin. Mine don't last that long but I never thought about it in relation to my period. I will actually think about it around the time of my next period.

They say that the creepy-crawly feeling can be a symptom of Restless Leg Syndrome, but if it's all over your body I really don't know :-/

Ummmm all I can think of is psychosis... that is a common symptom of patients who are losing touch with reality...heh. Sorry I'm in school for that stuff so it's all I can think of.

Really though, if you have no mental health issues, my guess would be some kind of nutritional deficiency related to your cycle. From my understanding things like...umm...low iron? Or potassium...sodium... I dunno, I'm too tired to google.. but anyway, it can cause "creepy-crawlies" like that. I wonder if it's a symptom of anemia?

YES I got this every now and then when I had super-low estrogen (I was not on birth control). I had <20 during ovulation! (Dunno why i still had my period).

I recommend you go for a blood test to check your estrogen, DHEA, etc. Don't be scared, though. It'll go away. :)

Hah! I'm not the only one? This makes me feel better. I never took notice as to what time of month these occur, I only know that they are random. I took a looksie one day as I was being ticklified and saw nothing. Analyzing the sensation again when it came around, I wondered if it simply might be blood surging & therefore making freshly trimmed hair feel like something's moving through it.

I'm going to research what [livejournal.com profile] cheshirepurr said about Restless Leg Syndrome.

You're not alone! It's probably just one of those things. :p
