I was wondering whether it was possible to have a yeast infection, but only experience the itching. I have no burning while peeing, no cottage cheese discharge or anything, but I've been really itchy down there lately. Usually I itch myself a few times a day, so it's not like I'm NEVER itchy except for yeast infections, and so since there's a slight increase I'm just wondering if that's just me being naturally itchy. Annnd the itching started to get worse after my period, and it might possibly be connected to the fact that I left my Diva Cup in for a bit over twelve hours (yeah, bad I know, but it was exams and I was stressed and was I lazy/breaking down...oops) so maybe that could have caused it? I've also noticed that I've been more dry down there; so maybe there's just natural dryness that's not an actual yeast infection? Or is dryness a symptom of a yeast infection? I've never really had one before. Also, if I suspect it's a yeast infection, based off of this one symptom, is it bad to use monistat or something anyways?

Thanks so much!!

It could definitely be bad to use monistat or something, even if you did have a minor yeast infection. You body can develop a resistance to drugs like that, and if you use it for a non-infection, or even a minor infection, then it is much more likely that if you DO get a real infection some time down the road, it wont work for you, and you'll need to use something even stronger.

If you google around there are lots of "home remedies" for yeast infections that wont hurt you even if you don't have one.

you could try using plain (unflavored) yogurt with lots of good bacteria in it(stonyfield farms is probably the easiest to find) inserted vaginally. eating 2 of those yogurts a day (but flavored) has helped me greatly which i had itching. when i don't have itching, i just eat one.

When I have yeast infections, the only symptom I ever have is intense itching - I never have a distinctive smell or unusual discharge or anything. If the itching is still mild, there's a lot you can do before using monistat. For me, the best way to ward off a YI is to take acidophilus pills - using yogurt didn't help at all. Other women like using yogurt or garlic.
