Hey Ladies! I posted a while back concerning various hymen adjustment surgeries and have just this morning had my hymenectomy and figured I'd add to the database of knowledge that is VP.
A hymenectomy is total or near-total removal of the hymenal membrane to allow for easier access. All my life I've had a problem using tampons and have never been able to have sex or a pelvic exam because my vaginal entrance was too small. It also turns out, I was informed today, that I had what is known as a septate hymen, where a band of tissue is stretched across the opening creating two smaller holes. The problems were all fixed in a short procedure, during which I was under anesthesia so I don't remember any of it. The doctor cut off the excess membrane with a heated needle (or something like that) so the wound was mostly cauterized during the procedure. She put in a few dissolving stitches and I was moved to the recovery room.
After an hour or so when I was pretty much conscious, they wheeled me out and I was on my way back home. My cooch was understandably sore and stings when I urinate, but that should clear up in a few days as it heals. Funnily enough, the thing that's bothering me the most is the sore throat I have from something they put in my throat to help me breathe.
Anyway, that's my story. I'd like to thank everyone who responded to my previous questions, as all advice was taken into consideration. If you have a similar problem or have any questions for me, feel free to ask.
Oh, I almost forgot to add the best part. Dr. Ruth Westheimer, the renowned sex therapist and author, did a lecture at my university this evening and she was absolutely delightful. I was able to go to a reception with her afterwards and eat a little dessert with her. I was too embarrassed to bring up my recent surgery, but it would've been interesting to hear what she had to say.
