Our physiology/anatomy & biology courses were spot-on, but the health classes went into GREAT detail about every existing STI EVER-- without giving us any clues about risk level and prevention-- especially this: you can respect yourself when you choose to have sex by discussing testing and past sexual experiences with your partner. Have your partners tested before participating and get tested between partners...

That's not how hormonal birth control works. It's not a drug that your body develops a resistance to; the compounds in HBC mimic the progesterone your body naturally produces during pregnancy. Your body is receiving signals that it is already pregnant, and thereby prevents ovulation (no releasing eggs when you're "already fertilized"). The week of "bleeding" on the pill is the break down of uterine lining, as per usual.
Man... I understand teaching young women to respect their sexuality, but sometimes it's disturbing when people move from personally condemning certain behaviors to MISinforming students in a classroom.
