Cervical Mucous?

vaginapaginaSo, since starting on HBC (ortho tri-cyclen lo) three months ago, I've noticed odd objects in my menstrual flow on the first and second day of my cycle. At first I was afraid it might be tampon fibers, so I managed to investigate a few of the objects.
They wouldn't dissolve or break apart like normal discharge would, or change shape. It seems stretchy, but still difficult to pull apart. I ran it under the faucet and that force didn't break it apart.
So my question is - is this normal? Is it the secretion of cervical mucous from the HBC? Do other women experience this, or should I be asking the doc?
