I've sometimes noticed my urine smells a bit like popcorn. Uhm.. This is often right before a period, or after a few days of ingesting a lot of splenda, which isn't processed the same way sugar is.. too much sugar might have the same effect?
Any chance you're diabetic? In diabetics excess blood sugar is secreted in the urine. Before they had blood tests to check for diabetes, doctors would taste a patient's urine to see if it was sweet.
Well, I do have a family history of diabetes...And I do have light headed spells, but I never thought it would be connected to blood sugar. That may be worth investigating.
That would make me concerned, if you have a family history, and you're smelling sweet urine. A few common symptoms of uncontrolled bloodsugar are excessive thirst, with excessive urination. Peeing ALL the time, getting up at night, stuff like that. You said below that you pee a lot in regards to a UTI...do you have the urgency & burning that would indicate that? I would definitely call your University Health Center to be seen, if you think that these are possibilities! Good luck!!
I do get thirsty a lot, but that could be because I don't drink as much water as I should. I do have to pee very often; sometimes several times in one hour. Never a burning feeling, but if I drink a glass of water, sometimes I'll feel like I have a full bladder up to 6 times in one hour... Unfortunatetly, I must wait until I get my paycheck to go to the health center and who knows how long that will take.
I've been wondering for a while if I have a UTI...I do have to pee frequently. I will call the university health center and inquire about an appointment.
Yeah, I agree with the above suggestions that you go take a pee test. That'll screen for UTIs, for sure, and I imagine will also cover things like sugar levels. Good luck!
I've noticed my urine sometimes smells like popcorn. I wouldn't say sweet, though. Hm. Dunno if that's much help, but in my case I don't think it's a medical issue...
not that this is what you have, but reading your post reminded me of something i came accross before while looking up stuff online, maple syrup urine desease http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000373.htm it starts in infancy, but one of the main symptoms is urine that smells sweet like maple syrup anyway, just thought that was intresting hope you figure out whats going on and its not something serious like diabeties take care!~
