I don't really think I have anything to worry about, but just because I'm always worrying, I thought I'd post here and get some opinions.
This morning my boyfriend and I were fooling around, and we were both in our underwear - me in a kind-of lace pair from victoria's secret, that cover but barely, and he was in his boxers, with his penis sticking out accidentally, and we were making out, and came unexpectedly and it was a little below my left hip, one my skin and my underwear and a little on my pubic hair. i wiped it off and everything afterwards, but i found something later tonight that might be dried up semen, but i know i'm also ovulating so i've been extra "gooey," so it could've been that.
anyways, what i'm asking is do i have a reason to be worried about being pregnant - and how readily available is the morning-after pill in new york city? that's where i live, and i remember hearing about something that passed a while back that made it possible to get the morning-after pill over-the-counter - but that could be wrong, though if it is available, i'd really want to get it just to be safe.
how worried should i be?

Anyway, you can get pregnant from having semen on your vulva. They move!

Poor spermies.
(I wonder why there isn't like, a PETA group for sperm... I should go back to sleep instead of going to class.)

Date: 2006-10-18 02:20 am (UTC)BTW, I really don't think you need EC in this situation. If it would help your ease of mind, go for it, but if none spilled directly on the vulva, your chances are extremely low. Even if it did spill on the vulva, it's still not a high risk.

Date: 2006-10-18 02:18 pm (UTC)Everything I've ever read is fairly clear on the fact that sperm does not die upon contact with air. However, it dries as soon as no moisture exists to maintain it (i.e. semen), and that while the amount of time that takes varies (http://www2.oakland.edu/biology/lindemann/spermfacts.htm) (obviously larger deposits of semen will take longer to dry -- scan down to the doctor's response to his "most frequently asked question"), some sources suggest that sperm can survive for as long as 20 minutes (http://www.scarleteen.com/reproduction/adv_oxygen.html) outside the body.

Date: 2006-10-18 03:46 am (UTC)I would not suggest the morning after pill. With so much hormones and the risk of feeling crappy from it, and perhaps messing up your period, the risk is not worth it.
no EC
Date: 2006-10-18 03:53 am (UTC)I would take EC in similar situations as yours, and there really is no reason to. You'll be okay!

Date: 2006-10-18 07:37 am (UTC)however, a guy i know was talking about some chick he knew (i think she was related) getting pregnant by a guy fingering her with a little sperm on it.
i didn't buy that story though. she probably had piv sex and got pregnant.

Date: 2006-10-18 02:24 pm (UTC)As other commenters said, if you do not have semen in the vagina, you will not conceive... sperm are good little swimmers, sure, but they're not capable of moving by themselves from a hip or thigh into the vagina.
Basically, your real risk here is whether or not semen actually came in contact with your vagina. If this is the case, then there may be a risk of pregnancy. However, from the sounds of it, it may be unlikely that this occured.
I would personally not seek EC because of this incident, but if it will be better for your peace of mind then you should do what makes things better for you!
According to our EC Vulvapedia entry (http://www.vaginapagina.com/index.php?title=Emergency_Contraception_FAQ), emergency contraception isn't available over-the-counter in New York yet. However, any Planned Parenthood or sexual health clinic should be able to prescribe it for you.
