Hi there,
vitrolic told me that a lot of women are irritated by using ALWAYS sanitary pads and I just wondered if anyone who's had problems with them could give me any advice?
I have Interstitial Cystitis and Vulvodynia and recently noticed a connection between my flare ups and using the Always pads. I stopped using them last Thursday but I'm finding my skin is still very sensitive (but not really "sore" )and it is causing a lot urethral discomfort and my bladder is just going nuts! Could this be responsible for my IBS flaring up also or is it more likely it's just a co-incidence? Is it likely that this is still the cause of my flare as I stopped using the pads on Thursday and don't know if it should have settled by now!
I don't use anything for my VV as I've never been able to find a treatment that doesn't aggreviate my IC (in the past I've tried estrogen + steroid creams, birth control and a few other prescription lotions - and they all caused me a lot more pain and discomfort!). I do take Amitriptyline which I think is helpful to both. The VV itself generally doesn't bother me too much, it's just the knock on effect it has on my bladder that drives me crazy. I'm in constant discomfort just now and wondered if anyone has any home-remedies they can recommend?
I know some people find that not wearing underwear helps them, but I'm the complete opposite, for some reason if I don't have a lot of padding I become much more sensitive so I usually wear sanitary pads all month round (having a bladder condition it also makes me feel a little more confident, even though I've never suffered incontinence it's still something I live in fear of!). I find it especially helps me when I'm travelling otherwise the car vibrations really increase my discomfort.
Right now I'm just going to stick to Kotex and Tena pads but just wanted to know if there's anything else that can help soothe the irritation or should I just leave it to calm down on it's own? My skin is really raw looking but my GP is always so reluctant to prescribe me anything new because I have such bad reactions to lots of things and she usually just tells me to use Bi-carb in a bath, and a pure moisturiser like Aqueaous Cream or E45. Would something like Canestan help soothe the area even though this is not an infection?
I stopped using Always on Thursday and my discomfort is pretty much the same, I don't know how long I can expect to wait before it becomes less sensitive?
Also, is anybody aware of how "safe" Bodyforms "Odour Control" sanitary towels are for this kind of sensitivity? The Tena pads I use are odour control and I'm fine with them, but I don't know if odour control sanitary towels have different chemicals to Tena pads? I know all the "fragranced/fresh" pantyliners are a big no-no for me. Bodyform used to be my favourite brand but now it seems all their products are odour control so I'm a bit nervous about using them!
