I'm looking for narratives about sex during pregnancy...stuff that's sex-positive, feminist, etc... Any suggestions?

Many many years ago, in an anthology that I don't remember the name of, I read an essay about fisting during pregnancy, by Suzie Bright, and I've been trying to track it down again ever since.

I found it...you can read the essay Egg Sex, which is her essay on birth-it includes talk about fisting, and about her use of her Hitachi Magic Wand during labor. I read this essay ten years ago, I think probably in this book and clearly it made a big impresion, if I still remember it now.

I've read mixed information on fisting during pregnancy, so I'm not sure there's been enough study to determine whether it is or isn't safe during pregnancy, but like many things, it may depend on the state of your body during pregnancy, and the best thing to do, if you're interested in it, is probably to consult with your midwife and health care team. You can always ask under the guise of perineal massage, and whether your midwife thinks that's something she wants you to do to prepare for labor and delivery.

For those who are interested, here (http://susiebright.blogs.com/susie_brights_journal_/2006/06/egg_sex.html) is the link to the same article from her own blog. She also has the category 'pregnancy' (http://susiebright.blogs.com/susie_brights_journal_/pregnancy/index.html) which will probably have other relevant stuff, although a lot of the entries are about Plan B etc.

Her journal is absolutely worth spending hours wandering through, and reading regularly.

Thanks. I threw it into Google and the first hit was the findarticles one-I was on my way to bed so I didn't look further-I wanted to post before I forgot, but I think I'll swap my bookmark for the one in her blog (which, if I hadn't been sleepy would have been the first place to look, since I have the feed on my list.)

I happened to have Egg Sex bookmarked because I liked it so much. But her journal is great in general.

I was told by both midwife and doctor, that most sexual activity depends first on your pregnancy - meaning if you're not high risk and you haven't had any issues or problems like spotting, then what you're comfortable with is what you can do.

I would say it's best to talk to your midwife about how you're progressing first, just to be safe.

I know for me personally - during my first pregnancy vaginal pentration was painful because he was sometimes hitting my cervix, so we rarely did it and had to find a better angle. But when we had anal instead - I enjoyed myself more (as long as I wasn't smashing my belly) because we were able to get into a better rhythm.

This time around.. I haven't wanted sex at all, I'm hoping now that I'm in my second trimester that my sex drive will come back.

Ina May Gaskin has a lot of sex-helping-labor stories, especially in Spiritual Midwifery. The Guide to Childbirth has fewer, and a less ... hippie vibe. (Though a great guide to birth!)

I suspect that isnt *quite* what you are looking for, though.

FWIW, pregnant sex is better than anything else, especially in the 2nd trimester. Woohoo! :)

Please post your results, I'd love to read anything you find!
